You're probably right. 中国通 isn't the same as "sinophile" (since 中国通 doesn't necessarily imply fascination with China, although it probably usually does in practice), but I've never heard the term 中国迷 before, whereas 中国通 is fairly common. Same as 汉学家, except that the latter can also denote a Chinese (person) specialist in Chinese studies (汉学) whereas 中国通 obviously carries a slightly different connotation: a (foreign) person who has a good knowledge (通) of China. 中国迷 is quite emotional. Imagine ... a non-Chinese person who is for some reason or other fascinated with everything "made in China" ... It's almost romantic. So I'd go for 华迷. Sounds kind of neutral.
