xianhua Posted October 7, 2009 at 08:13 PM Report Posted October 7, 2009 at 08:13 PM What is going on with NCIKU? I just tried it (as a favourite) and I get a page written in Korean? I translated the top line which reads: 을(를) 찾을 수 없습니다 through Google, as 'the page cannot be displayed'. I'm trying to access it from the UK. Quote
imron Posted October 7, 2009 at 08:43 PM Report Posted October 7, 2009 at 08:43 PM Working fine for me in Australia. nciku is developed by a Korean company, hence the Korean error message. Quote
HashiriKata Posted October 7, 2009 at 09:01 PM Report Posted October 7, 2009 at 09:01 PM Same problem here (also in the UK). Hope that it's only temporary. Quote
renzhe Posted October 7, 2009 at 09:06 PM Report Posted October 7, 2009 at 09:06 PM Germany too. I hope they're back online soon, I really enjoy their dictionary. Quote
tooironic Posted October 7, 2009 at 09:14 PM Report Posted October 7, 2009 at 09:14 PM I'm getting an error message too. Nciku, despite its awesomeness as an online dictionary, has never been very reliable. Hopefully this, like their other downtimes, is only temporary. Quote
imron Posted October 8, 2009 at 12:51 AM Report Posted October 8, 2009 at 12:51 AM Aha, now I see. I normally use nciku.cn which works fine. nciku.com however returns the korean error message. Quote
cypherpunks2 Posted October 8, 2009 at 02:53 AM Report Posted October 8, 2009 at 02:53 AM Their search still seems to work though. Try e.g. http://www.nciku.com/search/all/画蛇添足 Maybe it's just the English frontpage? Quote
BertR Posted October 8, 2009 at 06:43 AM Report Posted October 8, 2009 at 06:43 AM The Chinese version works fine: http://www.nciku.cn Quote
liuzhou Posted October 8, 2009 at 11:07 AM Report Posted October 8, 2009 at 11:07 AM I'm having no problems with any version. Quote
xianhua Posted October 8, 2009 at 11:27 AM Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 at 11:27 AM Yes, nciku.com is back now - life can resume. Quote
xianhua Posted December 10, 2009 at 09:37 PM Author Report Posted December 10, 2009 at 09:37 PM Down again - . My paper dictionary never does this. Quote
trisha2766 Posted December 11, 2009 at 03:28 AM Report Posted December 11, 2009 at 03:28 AM The main page has been down for me all day too, but I had an internal page bookmarked and I'm able to use at least some of the site that way. Try this link and see if it works for you: http://www.nciku.com/conversation Quote
trien27 Posted December 11, 2009 at 04:00 AM Report Posted December 11, 2009 at 04:00 AM When in Korean, it seems that there's either something wrong with the server or [as I suspect: the server might be disconnected or "turned off" due to unknown reasons? or maybe it was somehow reset by the network administrator?]. It happens to me sometimes. It works for me most days. It only doesn't work when I expect it to work 24/7. It doesn't do that most days. Only once in a while, which forces me to use other websites or ways to input Chinese. Or I could go to Yahoo dictionary [China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc...] and look for a word which has the character I need, then copy & paste. Quote
Kai13 Posted December 11, 2009 at 07:17 AM Report Posted December 11, 2009 at 07:17 AM It doensn't work in Portugal neither... Quote
liuzhou Posted December 11, 2009 at 11:11 AM Report Posted December 11, 2009 at 11:11 AM Working perfectly here in China. Quote
OneEye Posted December 11, 2009 at 02:31 PM Report Posted December 11, 2009 at 02:31 PM Nciku tweeted yesterday that they were having some problems and users outside China should use nciku.cn for now. That said, it looks like it's working now. Quote
taylor04 Posted March 2, 2010 at 02:22 PM Report Posted March 2, 2010 at 02:22 PM I haven't been able to get on for a few days now, I'm a USA user. I've tried both the .com and .cn version of NCIKU. Anyone else having problems? Quote
HedgePig Posted March 2, 2010 at 03:09 PM Report Posted March 2, 2010 at 03:09 PM No problems to today in China or via a server in HK. I did (briefly) hit some downtime yesterday. Quote
