sammie101 Posted October 12, 2009 at 09:50 AM Report Posted October 12, 2009 at 09:50 AM My partner and I are moving to China in January and we are looking to have our pcs and a few other bits and pieces shipped to our Chinese address (once we have one!!) Has anyone experienced shipping items from the UK to china and have any advice? Thanks! Quote

imron Posted October 12, 2009 at 10:41 PM Report Posted October 12, 2009 at 10:41 PM If by PC you're talking tower case and monitor, you may well find that it's cheaper and less hassle just to buy a new PC over here (assuming of course you want everything to arrive in working order). Quote
sammie101 Posted October 13, 2009 at 08:19 AM Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 at 08:19 AM I did consider this, however I am quite a pc-gamer and imagine a decent pc with top graphics will probably cost more but I don't know! I will keep this in mind! Thanks! Quote
roddy Posted October 13, 2009 at 08:33 AM Report Posted October 13, 2009 at 08:33 AM If you're shipping out, eg, a lot of furniture and the PCs are just going to slip into a space amongst all that, fair enough. But if the PCs are the main item, I suspect you'd be better off looking at buying again out here - certainly if you'd be planning to upgrade during your stay anyway. If you can read Chinese you could price up components somewhere like zol.com.cn. Quote
sammie101 Posted October 13, 2009 at 09:51 AM Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 at 09:51 AM My PC is the main item, along with some games and my ps3! Just a few things to brighten and cheapen up my evenings! Unfortunatly I am nowhere near reading chinese yet (just started beginners mandarin) and was concerned about being able to buy a pc abroad. I have found quotes around £100 for shipping a small box containing just those items listed above. Do you imagine there is anyway of getting one cheaper than that at a high spec? Thank you for your advice! Quote
imron Posted October 13, 2009 at 10:03 AM Report Posted October 13, 2009 at 10:03 AM You won't be able to buy a high-end system for that, but what kind of shipping are you talking about? You might find if you add in insurance, and reliable quality the prices go up and so does the type of machine you'll be able to buy. Quote
visualplus Posted October 13, 2009 at 04:40 PM Report Posted October 13, 2009 at 04:40 PM With the money you will spend on shipping a computer, you could almost buy a new one. I posted a 15kg luggage last year from London to Chengdu and that cost me 150 pounds. (no electronics but clothes and books). Quote
sammie101 Posted October 27, 2009 at 03:17 PM Author Report Posted October 27, 2009 at 03:17 PM has any one got any idea how much a decent lcd moniter might cost me in China? I can abandon mine for the extra weight it may cost in shipping but I have a decent gaming pc that I can't bear to part with!! Quote
imron Posted October 27, 2009 at 11:56 PM Report Posted October 27, 2009 at 11:56 PM (edited) I hope you only play single player games, otherwise the network lag will kill you anyway. Checking an online store just now, they had 19-inch, widescreen LCD monitors going for as cheap as RMB 700. Edited October 28, 2009 at 12:20 AM by imron added link. Quote
sammie101 Posted October 28, 2009 at 09:45 AM Author Report Posted October 28, 2009 at 09:45 AM Oh my god that is ridiculous! Brilliant. Still think I'll take the pc though - I doubt It'll cost me less than 100 quid to get one of similar spec! Quote
