AlexanderH Posted October 12, 2009 at 11:33 PM Report Posted October 12, 2009 at 11:33 PM Hey.. So I'm moving to Beijing next summer to continue with Martial arts training. I want to train full-time, and my connections are sorting out/getting sorted out. But now i'm debating two things A: Teaching english so I will earn some money, have a place to stay, and free flights. OR B: Studying Chinese at a university (depends on PRICE.. I'm paying for myself). This'll give me a place to stay, food, and will improve my Mandarin much quicker. So what are considered the great universities in Beijing, and if anyone knows the prices for a semester/year, could you point me in the right direction? Thank you so much! Quote
Xiwang Posted October 13, 2009 at 04:00 PM Report Posted October 13, 2009 at 04:00 PM Alexander: You'll need to review some of the schools discussed on this board to see if any of them meet your needs. The summer program information may not be out yet but here are links to current general information for some of the favorite public universities: BLCU http://www.blcu.edu.cn/lzb/lx/english/questions.htm Peking University http://www.oir.pku.edu.cn/newoir/stuab/doc/2009/en/Shortterm_en.pdf Tsinghua University http://www.tsinghua.edu.cn/eng/board1/boardlist.jsp?boardid=72&bid2=102&pageno=1 If you want to meet a diverse group of international students (for networking, night clubbing, etc.), all three above are good. These schools are also well geared to make enrollment relatively easy for English speakers, which is useful if you want to save money by enrolling directly rather than using a third-party company to help you. You may also want to search this board and the Internet for programs at other good schools, such as at Renmin University, Beijing Normal University, and Beijing Foreign Studies University. Beijing Sport University offers martial arts training as well as Chinese but I don't see that its website offers any English translations: http://www.bsu.edu.cn/new/web/ Good luck. Please let us know what you wind up doing. Quote
