Hi,

Can anybody tell me the meaning of following: 哈哈!你搞什么。

I translated it online as "haha. What are you doing". A friend said its more like "What the hell are you doing". Is it intended to be a question (no question mark) or is it more a rhetorical question? Jus wanna find out whether that person was angry of what I said previously^^ thanks alot guys.

The 哈哈 indicates that this person is almost certainly not angry. I think a better translation is perhaps something like:

haha, what are you up to? or haha, what are you playing at?

Well, it depends. 哈哈 can be satirical! It really depends on the context.:)

It could still be what the hell are you doing as but the tone of voice more than likely is not angry. Confused, humored, etc but probably not angry however there is a slight chance that he/she is pissed off and masking it through politeness.
