linyating Posted October 23, 2009 at 07:17 AM Report Posted October 23, 2009 at 07:17 AM Hi, Just wondering if it is actually possible to apply for the Chinese Language Program at Tsinghua as an exchange student from another university (in Australia). I was certain it was, but now that the applications have opened I'm not so sure- as an exchange student, you're meant to apply for the "general scholar program", which doesn't give you the option to say you want to do the Chinese Language Program on the form- but on the application form for the CLP, it doesn't give you the option to say that you're an exchange student either. Very confusing, and my uni's international office isn't much help- plus nothing on the web seems to deal with applying for the CLP as an exchange student. Does anyone have any clues? Would be greatly appreciated- thanks in advance!
fanglu Posted October 23, 2009 at 09:38 PM Report Posted October 23, 2009 at 09:38 PM What do you mean by exchange student? Do you just mean that your university will give you credit for your classes? If so, I think the issue will be arranging it with your australian university more than the chinese university.
linyating Posted October 23, 2009 at 11:28 PM Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 at 11:28 PM No, everything's all organised with my university, they have exchange agreements with Tsinghua and I've been nominated etc. etc. I just need to know what program to apply for in Tsinghua's online application system- I assumed some people on here would be exchange at Tsinghua, doing the Chinese Language Program, and thus might have experience with this... anyone?
Daan Posted October 24, 2009 at 02:17 AM Report Posted October 24, 2009 at 02:17 AM as an exchange student, you're meant to apply for the "general scholar program" Who's telling you that? Wouldn't they know more?
linyating Posted October 24, 2009 at 04:46 AM Author Report Posted October 24, 2009 at 04:46 AM I wouldn't be asking if they did- it's what they say in the instructions for the application system, I've even emailed Tsinghua (via my uni's exchange office) and their answer was really very unclear. As I said in my last post (though it doesn't seem to be here yet, bizarrely, might try posting it again), I was just hoping that someone on this forum might be at or have gone to Tsinghua as an exchange student and done the Chinese Language Program, and thus would be familiar with how the application process works...
imron Posted October 24, 2009 at 06:25 AM Report Posted October 24, 2009 at 06:25 AM From Tsinghua's website: Do remember that the "programme" to apply is the programme at Tsinghua University the applicant want to apply. For example, no matter the applicant is an undegraduate students or master students in his/her home university/college, as long as he/she wants to study in Tsinghua as a visiting student or exchange student, he/she should apply for the "General Scholar Programme", NOT the "Undergraduate Programme" or "Master's Programme".I haven't studied at Tsinghua, but when I studied at Beida with their Chinese Language Program several years back it was also as a "General Scholar."
