liuzhou Posted October 23, 2009 at 04:54 PM Report Share Posted October 23, 2009 at 04:54 PM I was sitting waiting for a friend and passing the time by perusing the menu in my local coffee / tea bar today and realised that, although I can read all the characters, I haven't the faintest idea what the following are. Or whether they are worth a try. I'm not a big coffee or tea drinker. Any suggestions? Coffee 雪泡蒸馏咖啡 Tea 甘露洛神茶 郭老吉清凉茶 油切美人茶 玫瑰酿奶茶
leeyah Posted October 24, 2009 at 03:45 AM Report Share Posted October 24, 2009 at 03:45 AM I'm not an expert, but I do love both coffee & tea, so here: The pic of 雪泡蒸馏咖啡 speaks for itself. Teas on your list are apparently all 花草茶. 甘露茶 is a mixture of herbs, apparently one of 白茶s (white teas) which are considered the best, much better than all the highly praised green teas. The name comes from the picking season (before the buds are open). 甘露茶 is a 药品 in 中医, so it must be true. 洛神花 is another name for hibiscus 芙蓉花, protects the heart, lowers high blood pressure. Tastes a bit sour, like cranberry tea, but both are excellent antioxidants high in vitamin C, in the West also highly recommended for the treatment of colds and flu. 油切美人茶, 'Beauty tea' is similar, a mixture of 甘草s & 油切果s (e.g. aloe), good for losing weight. Not sure about 郭老吉清凉茶. It seems to be a Taiwanese brand of tea, anyway as the name implies it's one of those 'cooling' summer teas. 玫瑰酿奶茶 is rose-bud tea with milk (! ) (Ummm... No, I don't think I'll ever venture into this one, not after I've tried green tea with milk, no, never again ... )
liuzhou Posted October 24, 2009 at 01:48 PM Author Report Share Posted October 24, 2009 at 01:48 PM Thanks Leeyah. I'd partly worked some of them out, but you've certainly filled many gaps. I'll just have to go back and try the 郭老吉清凉茶. Fortunately, it's still summery down here, but I'd better hurry!
