leosmith Posted October 26, 2009 at 12:44 AM Report Posted October 26, 2009 at 12:44 AM This is the best Mandarin text I've found, in great part due to it's DVD series. The DVDs can also be found on you tube, but they seem to be poorly reproduced. I would like to buy all three Texts, and all three DVD sets. But I'm unable to find them all online (my Mandarin isn't good enough to search Mandarin sites). They are in heavy use in Chinese language schools in Taiwan. Can you help me find these? If you're in Taiwan, can you look next time you're in a bookstore? I'm thinking about paypaling a language partner some money and having her ship them to me, but I'd rather buy them myself online. Daan Posted October 26, 2009 at 02:58 AM Report Posted October 26, 2009 at 02:58 AM They sell those everywhere here in Taiwan. Eslite, a chain of bookstores, seems to have them up for sale on their website: http://www.eslite.com/search_pro.aspx?query=%E8%A6%96%E8%81%BD%E8%8F%AF%E8%AA%9E but I can't find the DVDs at first glance. They do offer shipping to the United States (by TNT), which costs: 美加 美國、加拿大 估計空運工作天5 基本費 450 折扣前總書款*0.7倍 Those shipping costs seem quite expensive. I'm pretty sure buying them here and sending them by airmail at any post office would be a lot cheaper, and about as reliable. Other online bookstores might offer cheaper rates, of course, but I don't know of any. Hope this helps. If not, just let me know! Quote

I sent a copy of Practical Audio-Visual Chinese 1 (textbook, workbook & MP3) to Europe, set me back about 400 NTD. So that's probably what you would be looking at when ordering from Eslite, too. This would be airmail though, so if you're willing to wait a bit longer, SAL shipping would probably be a bit cheaper. Quote
leosmith Posted October 27, 2009 at 12:15 AM Author Report Posted October 27, 2009 at 12:15 AM I didn't find them on either of those sites, even though one of the two had an english version. My Mandarin isn't good enough to navigate a chinese site. Any other suggestions? Quote
Daan Posted October 27, 2009 at 06:17 AM Report Posted October 27, 2009 at 06:17 AM Hmm, the link I gave you went straight to the list of 新版實用視聽華語 books available at Eslite, at least on my computer. Anyway, if your Mandarin isn't good enough yet to browse that site, it's going to be a pain to order from them anyway. Can't find them on www.studychineseculture.com either, sadly. Which ones would you want to order exactly? In your first post you said that you would like to buy "all three Texts, and all three DVD sets", but there are five textbooks, namely levels 1-5, five corresponding workbooks and apparently also DVD sets (which we do not use at our university). chaxiu Posted October 27, 2009 at 11:42 AM Report Posted October 27, 2009 at 11:42 AM There maybe some confusion... The old edition had 3 levels 1, 2A, 2B and 3. The 2nd edition has 5 levels. From what I saw on youtube, the videos (VCD) are from the old edition. I don't think that they made videos for the 2nd edition, but most of the lesson are the same. Is this what you are looking for? http://www.ccbc.com.tw/book_detail_e.php?book_sn=1556 Chaxiu Quote
Meng Lelan Posted February 16, 2011 at 10:40 PM Report Posted February 16, 2011 at 10:40 PM Seems like the second edition came out....I wasn't aware of this, having had the just the first edition for some time now which I used for tutoring a former student going to Taiwan. I was wanting to order Volume 5 textbook, is CCBC the only website to order from? I don't seem to see any US based websites selling Practical AV Chinese Voume 5. Quote
