Is there anybody who studies TCM? If so, could you tell me where I can buy English textbooks in the mainland?

I know that the most popular English textbooks are by Giovanni Maciocia, so it would be best if you could tell me where his books are available in the mainland.

thanks.

As far as I know there is no place in Mainland China to buy English TCM books published outside of China.

If you are looking for TCM books written by native English speakers there are several published by PMPH (人民卫生出版社). Dr. Huang's Shang Han Lun book is quite popular in the US right now. (I am pretty sure this is the right edition...)

Also a book that I translated has just been published - "Illustrated Chinese Tuina - Techniques and Methods" (图解中国推拿技法). 8)

I am very grateful, Hbuchtel. I'd like to buy a copy of TCM Fundamentals , Chinese Materia Medica, TCM Prescription, and TCM Diagnosis. By the way, who is Dr. Huang?

I have studied TCM for more than two years and I have great interest in translation so maybe I will have medical translation as my future profession. 希望有机会向您学习。

:D

PS: Are books on the website of 人民卫生出版社 translations from Chinese? If they are what do you think of the them? Are they precise and smooth?

You forgot to translate 推拿 in the title - massage

Whoops ;)

But seriously, 'Tuina' is now a word in English... the book is meant for people who have already started studying TCM, but if it was more of a general interest book then I would have used 'massage'.

@OP- All the PMPH books are translations. There are two classes of English (or Ch+En) books, those intended for export and those for the mainland market. The standard is quite high for export books, so they would be good models for you to work on translation.

I've written to my friend at PMPH to ask for specific recommendations for the subjects you mentioned.

Regards, Henry
