jekarl Posted October 28, 2009 at 05:47 PM Report Share Posted October 28, 2009 at 05:47 PM Hi folks, I guess I'd like to give someone some practice. I was looking at buying this tea cup, but the thought came to me that I'd rather not have some ridiculous phrase screaming at me every time I drink out of the cup. Could someone help me out? Thanks! Guest Pipas Posted October 29, 2009 at 10:33 AM Report Share Posted October 29, 2009 at 10:33 AM Are you kidding? The picture is too small! I can see only 陶 (meaning: china)
skylee Posted October 29, 2009 at 11:06 AM Report Share Posted October 29, 2009 at 11:06 AM clicking on the picture enlarges it. but still i can only see the two bigger characters on the right, which is 陶然, meaning happy, relaxed, content. jekarl Posted October 29, 2009 at 12:34 PM Author Report Share Posted October 29, 2009 at 12:34 PM Well, if the characters mean happy and china, I'm guessing it's probably not something I would be upset with having on my cup? haha I'd still like to know what it says if someone could possibly make it out... Just for dinner conversation, ya know. Thanks guys for what you've told me so far!
Daan Posted October 30, 2009 at 09:00 AM Report Share Posted October 30, 2009 at 09:00 AM It's going to be pretty much impossible for anyone here to read that, since the characters are just too small. If you could post a bigger picture, we could definitely help you translate them
Guest Pipas Posted October 30, 2009 at 11:22 AM Report Share Posted October 30, 2009 at 11:22 AM oh, jekarl, the characters don't mean happy and china. A single Chinese character's meaning is like a tag cloud. Most Chinese words consist of two-three characters, and these unique combinations specify the meaning of the whole word in each case. So, 陶然 means "happy, relaxed, content" as skylee told you.
