Reading Mandarin with Shanghainese pronunciation

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Here's a clip of Song Qingling reading out a speech in Shanghainese. However, it seems like the speech is written in Mandarin, and she's just using Shanghainese pronunciation to read the characters out.

I just thought some people may be interested, since we've discussed reading using dialectal pronunciation before.

Well, I guess I'll say something. A lot of Cantonese speakers might be used to reading Vernacular Chinese with Cantonese pronunciation and find nothing weird about it, but it rubs me the wrong way. When someone does that, which language are they speaking?
