dheeraj28478 Posted November 8, 2009 at 04:48 AM Report Posted November 8, 2009 at 04:48 AM I have to apply for the visa on 10th Nov and for that I will have to submit my current passport book and it will take 7working days to get my passport back with visa. But I have to go to Shanghai on 16th after submitting the passport. Can it is possible to take the plane in China without current passport book or with colour copy of the passport or with the old passport book (which is cancelled after getting the new book)? Please suggest. Thanks. Quote
anonymoose Posted November 8, 2009 at 04:58 AM Report Posted November 8, 2009 at 04:58 AM I think you should contact the airline and ask them. They will be able to give you a more definite answer than anyone here. However, I suspect the answer will be no, or it will be a lot of hassle at the very least. Also, if you intend to stay in a hotel, you usually need your passport for that also (although they might be more inclined to accept a photocopy). Quote
roddy Posted November 8, 2009 at 05:25 AM Report Posted November 8, 2009 at 05:25 AM (edited) If the PSB have your passport there should be a slip of paper you can use in the meantime. However, airline check-in staff might not know what it is. Take any other photo id you've got, a copy of the passport (and current visa for good measure) and expect a bit of hassle. I've heard of people who've just plain forgotten their passport being able to get on a domestic flight after explaining the situation, but it's going to depend on who's there on the day and what kind of mood they're in. gougou Posted November 8, 2009 at 05:59 AM Report Posted November 8, 2009 at 05:59 AM (edited) but it's going to depend on who's there on the day and what kind of mood they're in. Exactly. I once went to Shanghai with a friend, and we flew back on different dates (plus he went back from Pudong and I went from Hongqiao). Also, I spoke Chinese and he didn't. He got refused, while I managed to get on the plane. That was four years ago, I would expect it to be much harder these days.If I was you and it was in any way feasible, I'd take the train.
