jasmine.pearl Posted November 12, 2009 at 09:32 AM Report Posted November 12, 2009 at 09:32 AM My cousin got this tattoo and I just wanted to be sure it means what she thinks it does. LOL. http://tinypic.com/r/e0r6rk/4 Thank you! Quote
fanglu Posted November 12, 2009 at 10:03 AM Report Posted November 12, 2009 at 10:03 AM This is not a Chinese character as far as I'm aware. It looks a bit like 福 which means good fortune. Quote
whereishunter Posted November 12, 2009 at 10:50 AM Report Posted November 12, 2009 at 10:50 AM I agree with fanglu. Its a very bad looking attempt of Chinese. I think that person who wrote this has no idea about Chinese characters at all, sorry Quote
imron Posted November 12, 2009 at 10:59 AM Report Posted November 12, 2009 at 10:59 AM Agree. I think it's meant to be 福 - fu, good fortune - but it's been written really badly. When getting a Chinese tattoo, it's not just enough to pick a correct word/character, you also need to get a tattoo artist who is experienced with Chinese characters and who knows what they're doing - which unfortunately was not the case here. Guoke Posted November 12, 2009 at 11:38 AM Report Posted November 12, 2009 at 11:38 AM 福 jinmeiyō kanji / 人名用漢字 Quote
taylor04 Posted November 12, 2009 at 12:35 PM Report Posted November 12, 2009 at 12:35 PM Yep, definatly fu 副。 Just means rich and prosper and all that. It is pretty poorly written though Quote
renzhe Posted November 12, 2009 at 12:40 PM Report Posted November 12, 2009 at 12:40 PM Yep, definatly fu 副 Definitely? Quote
jasmine.pearl Posted November 13, 2009 at 12:09 AM Author Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 12:09 AM Thank you all so much!! You guys are the best. My cousin is the black sheep of the family, very promiscuous and irresponsible. I was perusing http://ugliesttattoos.com/ and saw a bunch of tattoos that the recipient was told meant "good fortune" or "love" that actually meant "drunken slut" or "sleeps with two men at once" (LMAO) and I wanted to see if my cousin was in that category: http://ugliesttattoos.com/?s=chinese She's convinced that the kanji means "happiness". Are there any known (and possibly hilarious) connotations to the symbol I posted above?? Thanks again! Quote
lym13 Posted November 13, 2009 at 01:24 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 01:24 AM Definitely 福 Quote
Hofmann Posted November 13, 2009 at 03:58 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 03:58 AM What's this about it not being a Chinese character? It's clearly 福. Quote
roddy Posted November 13, 2009 at 04:02 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 04:02 AM She's convinced that the kanji means "happiness". Are there any known (and possibly hilarious) connotations to the symbol I posted above?? None that mean 'promiscuous' - sorry to disappoint. It's poorly drawn (although actually not that bad for a Chinese character tattoo, we've seen much worse), but it means what she says it means. Quote
jbradfor Posted November 13, 2009 at 04:14 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 04:14 AM Well.......... In Cantonese 福 is pronounced something like "fok". Say it outloud and mangle it a bit, and that's as close as I can get to something "promiscuous" But that's quite a stretch as there are probably about 20 characters also pronounced "fok". Quote
Guoke Posted November 13, 2009 at 04:36 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 04:36 AM None that mean 'promiscuous' Don't jump to conclusions so early. Someone who enjoys 齐人之福 is definitely promiscuous. Quote
BrandeX Posted November 13, 2009 at 07:29 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 07:29 AM There was a tattoo in that pic? It must have been somewhere in the middle of all the bras and panties. Quote
Guoke Posted November 13, 2009 at 07:57 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 07:57 AM Forgive my nosiness, but has anyone noticed that she doesn't have a life line (生命线) on her palm? That's very rare and unusual. I wonder if that provides a clue as to why she's "the black sheep of the family". Quote
