astra Posted November 12, 2009 at 04:38 PM Report Posted November 12, 2009 at 04:38 PM Hi All, I have been living here in Chengdu, Sichuan, China from last 6months. I am living here on company expense. My company is paying me on daily basis. I have a company provided Citibank world money Visa card. I use to reload the card on monthly basis. Now the time is to return and now i have more than 60,000RMB as a saving:-). I have two options, either i withdraw money from my card in RMB or let it be in the card and en cash the card back in India. But the Citibank rate is not competitive. Please suggest me how can i carry the money back if i withdraw money. I already withdrew 30000RMB:-) Thanks in advance, Amit Quote
kdavid Posted November 13, 2009 at 12:38 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 12:38 AM Use either Western Union or 邮政储蓄银行 to wire the money home. Western Union would be easier and English-friendly, while the bank will have a lower commission. Quote
astra Posted November 13, 2009 at 05:34 AM Author Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 05:34 AM Thanks David, Do the western Union accept money in RMB ? And in which currency they will transfer back to india (in rupees)? What documents they require for the processing? Thanks again. Regards, Amit Quote
chow0 Posted November 13, 2009 at 06:10 AM Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 06:10 AM I recently used Moneygram to have some money transfered to me from Europe to China. It is very easy and much cheaper than Western Union. They have a very good website: www.moneygram.com Quote
astra Posted November 13, 2009 at 06:10 PM Author Report Posted November 13, 2009 at 06:10 PM Hi, I think i ll have to convert RMB into dollars and then transfer the dollars either by western union or by moneygram. I am thinking of options like - take 20000-30000RMB cash with me on the flight. - convert rest of the money to dollars - Transfer that dollars by moneygram/western union or take the dollar with me in the flight Please suggest, Regards, Amit Quote
Erbse Posted November 25, 2009 at 08:56 PM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 08:56 PM You are allowed to take up to 6000RMB on the plane. Quote
imron Posted November 26, 2009 at 02:46 AM Report Posted November 26, 2009 at 02:46 AM Take a Chinese friend with you to the bank and have them transfer it to your bank a/c in your home country. Simple and relatively painless. Quote
roddy Posted November 26, 2009 at 02:51 AM Report Posted November 26, 2009 at 02:51 AM If you're doing that though, I'd suggest you do it early - if there's any problem it's possible the money will get sent back from India, and if you aren't in China to deal with it . . . Quote
