University of Nottingham, Ningbo or life in Ningbo in general

Hi everyone

I have just today got the news from my University that we concluded a partnership with the University of Notthingham (one of the UK's and Europes top Unis) in Ningbo, the first overseas University established in China.

I am very excited about this of course, and while I have previously considered going to Yunnan University in Kunming, this is academically much more interesting I think.

Does anyone have any experience with this University, or Bingbo in general ?

Best regards,

Simon

I recently heard Ningbo is supposed to have the best business people in China, apparently endowed with a unique business acumen.

The University is supposed to be top, but what makes you say that Ningbo sucks ?

Do you still have the contacts of your old mate ?

I mean it in the sense that theres nothing to see, not a good night life etc, it's just a business city(which could be what youre looking for). I have him on facebook but he got a job recently and is busy so we don't talk to much. I've never been there, just know what he told me. I was planning a small excursion to Ningbo once, but after finding out(from research) theres not a lot to do, I decided against it. It just depends on what you're looking for.

Yeah, I figured as much actually about Ningbo. I just thought that maybe with this and other Universities a bit of life could come to this city. But I reckoned as much about it being a business city. It really depends for me whether or not campus life is fun there, as I couldn't stand staying in a place for a year where no fun's to be had. And that for me includes an active social life, party, friends etc who aren't just into study.

I have been to Ningbo a few times to visit some friends that live there.

I think this is totally wrong. Ningbo as a city is not to bad but its just like 100's of others in China. But around the city there are plenty of interesting places to visit. My friends have electric bikes and they are always visiting some place around the city.

The night life in Ningbo is great as there are plenty of western bars, but also plenty Chinese bars where locals go. The many times that I have been out in Ningbo I have ended up speaking more Chinese than English. There are some great places to eat and there seems to be new places opening up every time i visit the city.

"A business city" what does that mean? I think in all cities there are business people as this is China. Maybe there are some factories around the city but what city in China doesn't have any factories near by. I am sure there are some cities but there cant be too many.

My friends that live there enjoy the place and so do I when i visit.

Thanks whereishunter, nice to hear a different perspective! I couldn't find any information concerning movies for example. Are there cinemas with either subtitles or English original language ?
