animal world Posted November 24, 2009 at 05:55 PM Report Posted November 24, 2009 at 05:55 PM I absolutely loved Kate Moss´ recent quote "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" I don't. It's not helpful for girls who are anorexic or who believe that looking as skeletal as runway models is the new beauty ideal. I have read a few times that Kate Moss is regarded as the most beautiful woman in the world. Actually, i find her ugly although readily concedes she's very photogenic. Maybe Moss' saying will induce some women to take up cocaine because it's an appetite-depressant and may help them to become skinny as well. Then, there was the recent furor about pictures of attractive and slim models for Ralph Lauren having been photoshopped into hideous, skeletal caricatures where the the face ended up being the widest part of the body! Scoobyqueen Posted November 24, 2009 at 06:13 PM Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 at 06:13 PM I don't. It's not helpful Unfortunately my irony didnt come across.I agree that her comment. take up cocaine because it's an appetite-depressant and may help them to become skinny as well. Smoking of cigarettes are a well known appetite-depressant Quote
animal world Posted November 24, 2009 at 10:00 PM Report Posted November 24, 2009 at 10:00 PM S-Queen, did you change your OP? If not, i should have read it more carefully instead of getting all carried away with my anti-anorexia tirade. Apologies. Nowadays, there's such emphasis on "Beauty" but most of the models and movie stars are "nipped and tucked" from head to toe. Their photographs can indeed be fantastic but it is often the result of skillful make-up artists and hair-dressers and, above all, outstanding photographers. It compares sharply with the reality here in the US where you see lots of grossly obese people hobbling along. And why all this emphasis on that superficial "beauty" in our culture? What's wrong with real people who take care of themselves, are sorta fit and sorta slim, and cultivate their mind and their personality instead of their loooooks? Anyway, i'm done pontificating on this sore subject. Good luck with getting a translation! Quote

heifeng Posted November 25, 2009 at 03:21 AM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 03:21 AM (edited) 享受美味没有享受瘦身的感觉好/爽。。。? or maybe 享受美味比不上享受瘦身 It's not really about losing weight -- just staying skinny, right? Whatevers, not like Kate is even thaaaat skinny these days...sheesh (rewind 10+ years maybe ) . Edited November 25, 2009 at 03:38 AM by heifeng Quote
HashiriKata Posted November 25, 2009 at 11:57 AM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 11:57 AM I think when it comes to translation, there will be many ways of understanding the same sentence. For "Nothing tastes as good as slim feels" , I think "吃食物没有减肥感觉好" may be correct but can also lead to controversy. I think the following (my version ) may be a little more neutral: "美味没有什么能比身材苗条的感觉好" Quote
skylee Posted November 25, 2009 at 01:12 PM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 01:12 PM consider - 窈窕/瘦身過(成)癮,美食難代/替/比。 Quote
chrix Posted November 25, 2009 at 01:20 PM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 01:20 PM skylee's version sounds very elegant and high-register to my ears Quote
xiaocai Posted November 25, 2009 at 04:15 PM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 04:15 PM 宁可食无肉,也要瘦如竹。 (我承认我又是来闹场的…) Quote
gato Posted November 25, 2009 at 11:57 PM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 11:57 PM Kate's version is a bit problematic grammatically, but we know what she means. A colloquial translation is easier if we invert the comparison and put slim before taste: 苗条比任何好吃的感觉都好。 Quote
zhouhaochen Posted November 28, 2009 at 12:38 PM Report Posted November 28, 2009 at 12:38 PM now, I would say, no trousers are more important than a big bowl of nanbaorou! Or lanzhoumian! Or anything really Quote
