Canon Posted November 25, 2009 at 07:32 AM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 07:32 AM Hi All, This question may have been addressed before and it would be much appreciated if someone could point me to that thread? However my situation may be unique.. I am currently going to study in Tsinghua in Feb 2010. However I currently work for a consulting firm who I may do some work for for one of our Chinese clients in Beijing. I am just unsure of the type of visa I need. The X visa is for studying but I'm not sure whether it will be legal for me to work there? I will still be getting paid outside of China but may have to go into the Beijing office for some work. What would the ideal visa arrangement be in this situation? Thank you to all that can help Quote
roddy Posted November 25, 2009 at 08:24 AM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 08:24 AM There's no 'work+study' visa - it's one or the other. As the main purpose of your visit is study, just go with whatever Tsinghua give you - it's unlikely anyone will become aware of or care about occasional work for which you don't even get paid locally. fanglu Posted November 25, 2009 at 12:29 PM Report Posted November 25, 2009 at 12:29 PM And whatever you do don't tick both the 'work' and 'study' boxes on the visa application form. Quote
dfunkyfresh Posted December 25, 2009 at 11:49 AM Report Posted December 25, 2009 at 11:49 AM The X / study visa means you're legally not supposed to earn renminbi within China, ie legally, you're not even supposed to tutor english there for some extra money. But i doubt they'll bust down your door and put you in shackles for that ;) Because you're getting paid outside of China, you'll be fine if you choose X /student visa. Besides, i'm sure there are many people in the same situation as you. Quote
