valikor Posted December 6, 2009 at 01:17 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2009 at 01:17 PM I did use the search function and the stickies and checked out quite a few sites, but I still can't find what I'm looking for I've really dedicated quite a bit of time to studying Chinese (living in BJ now) but honestly I must say I'm still a total beginner. I have memorized the first 700 words of the HSK level 1 wordlist, and obviously have picked up a lot of random words living in China. I'm wondering if there are podcasts that exclusively will use the HSK wordlists. For example, on popupchinese, other words are included even in the podcasts that are named "HSK Level 1" I know that wordlists have disadvantages and are not real-world, but personally, I like the concept. It helps me focus. I'd prefer if it were possible to take a break from studying vocab for a while and just listen to dialogs using the words that I know. Resources or any other general tips are appreciated! David
chrix Posted December 6, 2009 at 06:51 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2009 at 06:51 PM I understand what you mean. I also like to look up anything I don't know. So I think you need to learn to let go, as it were, listening to something you don't understand 100%, but at least get the gist of it. (This is in lieu of a more useful reply, because I'm not aware of any podcasts that strictly restrict their vocab to the HSK wordlists)
imron Posted December 6, 2009 at 08:51 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2009 at 08:51 PM The problem with that, is the real HSK always uses a portion of words outside the wordlists. I'm not sure what it is for other levels, but for HSK advanced it's around 20-25%. If you only learn words on the HSK word list you probably won't do so well on the HSK. chrix Posted December 6, 2009 at 08:58 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2009 at 08:58 PM another issue, of course, is that the HSK is perpetually changing, and the word list is not always updated accordingly. I'm sure there's plenty of threads on this already, but the word list roddy has kindly put on this site, I suppose it's based on the latest official (semi-official?) version available?
