Color in Hero

Here is a New York Times article (you have to rgister (free)) about ZhangYimou's "Hero".

I originally cast aside this movie, thinking it was a sell-out. But I think I'll re-watch it.

Here is a bit from the article:

"Hero" tells and retells one story three times: how an anonymous assassin in ancient China overcomes three rivals. Two of the versions are false, one true. I thought it as a sell-out as well, until I rewatched the movie several times, thanks to my fluency in only common-day conversational mandarin, I missed a bunch of information because of the formality of the scripts used in the movie (or atleast I think it was the formality). I had to use english subtitles.
