wushijiao Posted August 16, 2004 at 01:35 AM Report Posted August 16, 2004 at 01:35 AM Here is a New York Times article (you have to rgister (free)) about ZhangYimou's "Hero". http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/15/movies/15MACK.html?8hpib I originally cast aside this movie, thinking it was a sell-out. But I think I'll re-watch it. Here is a bit from the article: "The outcome of the collaboration is a spectacular film that looks like nothing that either man has done before. "Hero" tells and retells one story three times: how an anonymous assassin in ancient China overcomes three rivals. Two of the versions are false, one true. And they seem to come from different worlds: a red one, a blue one and a white one. "Obviously," Mr. Doyle says "it's our `Rashomon.' " Quote

Yuchi Posted September 9, 2004 at 01:04 AM Report Posted September 9, 2004 at 01:04 AM I thought it as a sell-out as well, until I rewatched the movie several times, thanks to my fluency in only common-day conversational mandarin, I missed a bunch of information because of the formality of the scripts used in the movie (or atleast I think it was the formality). I had to use english subtitles. Quote
