wow, I didn't know fei means "brown".

“啡”字單用, 可能還是近年來才有的現象。至於“啡”字與其他的字結合成詞, 則早已有之。

至少半個世紀以前, 香港已有“齋啡”這個詞, 沿用至今, 指的是不加牛奶、不加糖的咖啡 (black coffee)。

“咖啡色”, 香港粵語簡稱“啡色”, 由來也久。

香港《信報》副刊, 多年來有專欄名為“啡話”, 仿自“茶話”。有朋友指出,“啡話”可能還含有“廢話”自嘲之意。

香港近年來又出現了“網啡”, 仿自“網吧”。在“網啡”裏, 可以一邊喝咖啡, 一邊上網。這裏的“啡”是“咖啡館 (café)”的意思。“網啡”的英語招牌則是 Cybercafé。

the picture uses "啡" as a short of "咖啡色"

but we do rarely use the single word "啡" to present any meaning
