JonBI Posted July 5, 2010 at 07:45 PM Report Posted July 5, 2010 at 07:45 PM I got accepted in February, and it still says mine is checking. For all the people who think that they can call and get a real answer, I bet you half the people you are talking to are just trying to keep you quiet. Do you think the people there know, or pay attention to every document going through? The process is far less organized - things just happen depending on who, I would wager, your Guanxi at the embassy in your home country are, rather than in your prospective university. Just need patience, and luck - things will go through when they go through, and they will send you where they want to send you, if they want to send you - it isn't as involved as each university fights for you - it's more like someone in the head office reads something, or glances over something and then makes a basic decision where to dump you. The same way I know somebody who was chatting with the consul here in Toronto, and when mentioning interest in going to BeiDa to study Chinese, the person told them that the likelihood of that happening was essentially zero, so not to get the hopes up - simply put, they didn't want to put a student there for that, so they didn't. Think about it; how many copies of everything did you send them? Did the CSC open a sealed letter of recommendation, then xerox it and send it off to every institution? Did they xerox the physical forms, the paper work, etc.? What about the transcript? Did it get copied and sent everywhere? I would wager they probably send, if anything, to one of the institutions. They look, and they read, and they say, hmm, I think it will look good on us to send this person to this school - then they do it, or don't do it. Need to relax, and just wait to see what happens - they will contact you eventually if you get it, and going to all these universities and yelling at them to check and if they have seen your application is silly, and counterproductive. They haven't, since they aren't supposed to - they don't handle it, especially the person who you are talking to. It's like calling your local Member of Parliament and inquiring about what he thought of your federal tax return - it doesn't work, call the people who can tell you what you want, notably the consul you sent your stuff to, and if they don't give you an answer, assume it is still pending. 2
eliotecb Posted July 6, 2010 at 04:45 AM Report Posted July 6, 2010 at 04:45 AM is there anyone from brazil how alredy recieved the admission mail? or any other information?
Jonnynue Posted July 7, 2010 at 07:54 AM Report Posted July 7, 2010 at 07:54 AM Hey been lurking for sometime on this forum, anyway called my first choice and they didn't have my info, my second choice said they forward info to a different school , which I called and said they had my paperwork and it was approved and were sending it back to CSC. That was about 4 days ago. My online status hasn't changed and no notification from Embassy or CSC. Could something have happened? Would CSC reject it after the school accepted it? Do you think because the other school forwarded it to them that would have an effect on the process?
sleepy eyes Posted July 7, 2010 at 10:36 AM Report Posted July 7, 2010 at 10:36 AM No, but I wouldn't worry too much. They'll post the winners at the mre/dce site and it should probably be there before anyone gets the mail anyway. I don't think I'll get it, though... Got a bad vibe from it all, recently. Also, that response you got through e-mail sounded almost like a guarantee, cheer up! I'm guessing the results will either come 'till the end of this week or at the end of the month. (can't write in portuguese, apparently?)
eliotecb Posted July 7, 2010 at 04:38 PM Report Posted July 7, 2010 at 04:38 PM brigadaço cara TKS sleepyeyes, anxiety is freaking me.
Pascal Ma Posted July 7, 2010 at 07:48 PM Report Posted July 7, 2010 at 07:48 PM To deviate the subject a little while we're all waiting for the answers... Anyone knows what kind of visa we should expect to get? I imagine one year, renewable for longer programs. But do they usually allow multiple entries? In other words, if all goes well with my application, should I expect to be able to leave China during the school year and be able to come back, like during the new year holidays?
Lantos Posted July 7, 2010 at 08:47 PM Report Posted July 7, 2010 at 08:47 PM @Pascal If you plan to stay in China at least for a year apply for X visa. Virtually it's a 30-day-single entry visa (condition may vary depending on your citizenship), but after you arrive in China, you should do (or at least validate) your health exam papers (they not always accept your home country certificates, so sometimes you need to redo it), then go to the police and acquire residence permit. The residence permit works like an unlimited-entry visa for a year (you can leave the People's Republic as many times you wish ;) ). Anyway, today is the 7th July. The Brussels officer wrote the results will be published end June-early July. Time is ticking away and the time for truth is looming closer..............
Jonnynue Posted July 7, 2010 at 10:14 PM Report Posted July 7, 2010 at 10:14 PM just was reading last year post, seem that people began posting about being accepted around July 10th, then several around July 17th. Is this correct, perhaps someone could validate based on last two years when everyone knew they were accepted.
Jonnynue Posted July 7, 2010 at 10:19 PM Report Posted July 7, 2010 at 10:19 PM Since they have the ability to allow you to post/submit your application on line, then maybe they have like an internal website, where all they need to do is scan your application material into the computer. Then that way all the universities could like login and select who they want to go and like bid on you. Who knows I heard the Chinese can be really cool and advanced like that. I mean they invented the ninja, kuntfu and fulonggong so why couldn't the figure that process out? 1
New Members m3n Posted July 8, 2010 at 11:07 AM New Members Report Posted July 8, 2010 at 11:07 AM So while we wait.. I'm from Hungary too, and I'm wondering these days when the clock is ticking awfully slowly, that what will eventually decide our future. Our grades? Our spoken languages? Or maybe the rec'letter? Or just pure luck? Is there anyone here that has a clue, or something? I'm just wondering. Oh and hi there fellow hungarians!
Brian US Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:05 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:05 AM I'm from Hungary too, and I'm wondering these days when the clock is ticking awfully slowly, that what will eventually decide our future. Our grades? Our spoken languages? Or maybe the rec'letter? Or just pure luck? Is there anyone here that has a clue, or something? I'm just wondering. All we know is that we don't know anything about getting the final approval of the scholarship. I'd like to think it depends on the month you were born, or here in China it would be more likely the year. *Edit Made the futile decision to call the CSC office here in Beijing to ask about results. Had a hard time understanding, but in the end came up empty handed. I was told I would have to wait to hear from our home embassy and he couldn't tell me the results. I think one of the excuses was that they were still deciding on a few candidates. I'm getting worried as my visa expires July 31st.
Lantos Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:13 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:13 AM Oh and hi there fellow hungarians! Hi, welcome! I have always known, that the Hungarians are overrepresented among the EU window applicants... B) After roddy or another admin will allow you to send private messages, you can join our hungarian privat conversation. And to answer your questions: I agree with Brian US, we know not much, 'very close to absolutely nothing' (by CSC Godess extrapages). Although I don't like this 'date' numerology idea. This hits me home, because I have two 4 in my birth date. Bad omen. Certainly, the situation would be different with an 08/08 birthday...
Peiruo Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:24 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:24 AM @Brian US I hear you. I bit the bullet today and arranged for a 3 month extension of my visa since mine is due to expire on the 19th. Its kindof ridiculous how long this is taking. The foreign affairs office at Tsinghua has told me the last day I can pay my tuition to confirm my space for next semester is the 15th of July, so if we don't know by then I could end up without any options for next semester. Nothing we can do though. I'm guessing since its 4pm on a Friday afternoon we won't be hearing anything before Monday. Two 4s Lantos! I'm surprised they even let you apply!
Leigh Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:40 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:40 AM In Hungary it's just 10:40 am, so is in Brussels - let's hope, we hear something today, e.g. a list of accepted students XD 1
shidiwen Posted July 9, 2010 at 03:00 PM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 03:00 PM ... 17:00 in belgium... and another week is over without notifications for eu applicants
crisgee Posted July 9, 2010 at 04:42 PM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 04:42 PM @Jonnynue I think you're in. That's what happened to me last year. I emailed BLCU first week of July and they said they accepted me, but they told me to wait for my embassy's announcement. My embassy contacted me first week of August though.
sleepy eyes Posted July 9, 2010 at 06:12 PM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 06:12 PM Guys, I just received an admission notice straight from Chonqing! No news from either the embassy or any other parts associated with this (CSC included). Should I be cheering already? Also, on the university options I put Beijing Film Academy first and second, and left third blank. Maybe that's why they chose Chongqing? If anyone has any experience there, also let me know! And good luck to all.
sleepy eyes Posted July 9, 2010 at 06:38 PM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 06:38 PM Also, is it possible I might be admitted by other schools, supposing CSC forwarded my application to them?
eliotecb Posted July 9, 2010 at 09:37 PM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 09:37 PM I'm trying to contact Peking University e-mail (since it was my first choise), study@pku.edu.cn, but they never answered me back. Does anyone know any other contact to PKU?
MGMT Posted July 10, 2010 at 11:38 AM Report Posted July 10, 2010 at 11:38 AM A couple of questions about the scholarship in itself... Does anyone know how the money is handed out by Tsinghua University? Do they transfer it on a bank account (international, or only chinese?), or is it possible to get it in cash? And concerning the plane tickets: I read that they will only be paid for the citizens of countries which have signed a special agreement with China/CSC; is the list of those countries available somewhere? Or if not, I would guess it's maybe only for developing countries, which would leave Europe out of it? (Edit to make it more university-specific as it's already been answered in general.)
