sarapao_na_ka Posted January 18, 2010 at 09:33 AM Report Posted January 18, 2010 at 09:33 AM extrapages, Thank you so much ans about agency code???
extrapages Posted January 18, 2010 at 11:06 AM Author Report Posted January 18, 2010 at 11:06 AM sarapao_na_ka, please read ALL the posts. we dont know anything about the agency codes. they are new this year and are only a part of the online application... which isn't even a real online application. all it does is fills in the application for you to print and send in the mail. we are encouraging people to use the regular PDF file as the application because it does not require an agency code.
sju310 Posted January 20, 2010 at 07:31 AM Report Posted January 20, 2010 at 07:31 AM I am an American living in Beijing as a teacher and would like to get a csc scholarship to study. The hard part is going through the Chinese Embassy in the US to get the scholarship. I am having trouble getting anything from the US embassy. I have e-mailed and I can't get any response. I believe I need to send the form to them and then get the okay. I filled out an application for Taiwan with very little problems. This one seems to be more difficult. Are there any Americans that can help me with the process. Thanks ahead of time.
Gibbs Posted January 20, 2010 at 08:52 PM Report Posted January 20, 2010 at 08:52 PM SJU310, I am in the US and have to wonder what do you need from the Chinese Embassy in the US other than a name and address of whom to send your application to? My advice: Fill out your application, complete the medical paperwork w/ required tests/exams, obtain letters of recommendation, obtain necessary transcripts, and complete essay on how awesome you are. Once you have all of these things together (as described in detail on the main page of this thread), Shoot a PM to Extrapages inquiring the address for the CSC contact person at the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C. Then mail all of these things from Beijing to the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C. care of said CSC contact person. Like I said before I am in the US so please PM me if I can help in anyway.
sju310 Posted January 21, 2010 at 08:37 AM Report Posted January 21, 2010 at 08:37 AM Gibbs, Thank you for the information. From what I gathered, the application is due by the 30th of March but seeing different posts makes me uncertain. I will look into completing the process. The biggest pain, I think, is getting the medical exam done while in China. Thanks again. Scott

Miri116 Posted January 25, 2010 at 07:44 AM Report Posted January 25, 2010 at 07:44 AM Hi, I am trying to fill out a Confucius Scholarship Application, and the form asks for a "recommending institute" and for the signature of the "referee." I am a bit confused... I want to apply to be a Chinese language student, not a master's or doctoral student. So, I technically don't need letters of recommendation, right? In that case, what should I write down for the recommending institute? The Embassy to which I'll be sending my application? The Chinese university that I'd like to attend? Also, I am assuming that I need to send an application to the embassy and then send a copy to the Chinese university that I'd like to attend. Can someone confirm whether this is correct? Thanks for your help!
Lantos Posted January 25, 2010 at 04:51 PM Report Posted January 25, 2010 at 04:51 PM Hi alice! I am also European... but i will try to apply the scholarship this year. About the next years: they will surely sign the renewal of this program during 2010. So don't be afraid, there will be scholarship next year too. Will your BLCU studies self-financed or CSG scholarship?
Miri116 Posted January 26, 2010 at 01:55 AM Report Posted January 26, 2010 at 01:55 AM About the medical exam - I am currently teaching English in China, so I had an extensive medical exam before I left the US. I have the official Chinese medical form that is required in order to get a Z visa. Can I make a copy of that form, or do I need to get a new exam in China? Thanks!

travelgirl Posted February 7, 2010 at 04:42 PM Report Posted February 7, 2010 at 04:42 PM Hello everyone, congratulations for the ones who got the scholarship and best wish for the ones who are going to apply. I from Greece and things here are not easy for those learning chinese.I learning for over two years and a half and i hope for a scholarship so i can go to china and perfect my chinese. The problem is that here there many information on that, plus i m only just a high school graduate. i don't have many hopes because even my teacher told me that they would prefer a university undergratue. But i don't give up.What about you do you think that i have hopes to get it? I also want to ask if you know either the BLCU is included in the universities. And if anyone knows anything about the hsk scholarship please give me some info. Thnx in adavance see you

extrapages Posted February 8, 2010 at 05:33 AM Author Report Posted February 8, 2010 at 05:33 AM travelgirl, it's fine! many high school graduates have been accepted! i dont think the CSC has a preference for anyone - and if they do, no one knows what it is. the whole process seems very random. BLCU is a listed university. you should check out the website link on the first post for more information about the scholarship.
travelgirl Posted February 8, 2010 at 09:30 AM Report Posted February 8, 2010 at 09:30 AM thank you for answering that fast. You gave me great hope.
Brian US Posted February 10, 2010 at 04:00 PM Report Posted February 10, 2010 at 04:00 PM Might be a dumb question, but can I just use the physical I got in China last September. I'm applying from the States right now and pretty much had all the work already done. The physical did include blood work and a chest x-ray.
extrapages Posted February 11, 2010 at 06:00 AM Author Report Posted February 11, 2010 at 06:00 AM Brian US, if it's still valid, you can still use it. i think its valid for like 6 months? 3 months? cant remember. as long as you apply for the visa while its still okay validity-wise, you'll be fine!
Brian US Posted February 11, 2010 at 04:59 PM Report Posted February 11, 2010 at 04:59 PM if it's still valid, you can still use it. My physical is dated September 1st, yet I don't see an expiration date stamped anywhere. I still have a visa until July 31st, but according to roommate (lived in China two years) I don't need another physical to renew. I just had blood work done in the States this week, so I figured I could just throw that in? Doesn't include STD testing or chest x-ray, but my Chinese physical covered that. Am I too far off to say the Chinese is physical is good for a year if my visa is for that long? Thanks for the responses extrapages.
Sarpedon Posted February 12, 2010 at 01:31 AM Report Posted February 12, 2010 at 01:31 AM Almost got everything done for my application - just need to get my medical check and have everything notarized and then mail everything to wherever. I'm still planning on going to China even if I don't get the scholarship, but I don't want to apply to any schools until I know if I get it or not. Is mid-July when the results are determined too late to apply for self-financed study (Chinese Language only) for the Fall semester? I really want to go in Fall 2010. Should I apply now to my selected schools or is it ok to wait?
extrapages Posted February 12, 2010 at 02:55 AM Author Report Posted February 12, 2010 at 02:55 AM Brian US, I think its valid for 6 months, so you might be okay. BUT i suggest that you call or email your embassy contact to see if its cutting it too close. Sarpedon, if youre just learning chinese, you dont actually have to "apply" to get accepted. its pretty much open for anyone who will pay. you can even show up a week before school starts and just register and pay. so waiting is fine. i think to save you trouble, you should chill out until you find out the results of the scholarship... then move accordingly. hope this helps, guys!
