Directions to the bookstore in Wangfujing.

Hello,

It's been mentioned quite a bit in the forums, but I've yet to find specific directions or an address. Found this thread from 2003, but the link with directions/map isn't working.

Thanks in advance for any info (subway, which subway exit, address, etc.).

It's pretty straightforward. There are two, the Wangfujing Bookstore, which is near the south end - look for exit A from the subway, which'll take you into the 东方新天地 shopping center. Up a floor and to the left to exit onto Wangfujing, turn right to head north and it's not very far - pass a McD's and you're there I think. It'll be on your right. It looks like this.

The Foreign Languages Bookstore is further north, maybe a ten minute walk. It'll be on your left, and looks like this.

Wangfujing Bookstore probably has more Chinese learning stuff and is generally bigger. Foreign Languages one also has a decent selection of Chinese learning material, and also has lots of imported books on the higher floors.

No problem - can't imagine you'd have any trouble finding them, they're both huge, right on the street, and clearly marked. Just don't get sidetracked into any teahouses. . .

If you're on a book buying mission you may also want to make a sidetrip on Line 1 to Xidan's Book City. It's only a few extra stops on the subway, and is right next to the exit.

The exit for Xidan Book City at Xidan MRT station was closed when I was there two weeks ago, but there are no signs to warn you in advance until you stumble upon a wall. If this should happen, take the exit on the other side of the road and use the footbridge to get there. I think it was exit G that was closed, and I used exit F instead, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it's impossible to miss, but just in case, see the attachment: it's the building on the left. This is a Xinhua bookstore, just like the one on Wangfujing, but it seemed to me the one in Xidan is a bit smaller and has less learning material.

Another bookstore that might be worth your while if you are specifically looking for learning material is the HSK Bookstore on the BLCU campus, but I think most of what they sold there was also available at Wangfujing's Xinhua bookstore. Yet another huge bookstore is at 24 Baiwanzhuang Dajie, next to the Sinolingua building, but that one's harder to reach by public transport.
