lang-8 free "at the moment"

I know some 30-somethings there

So, at this point is a site dominated by Japanese people (as italki is dominated by mainland Chinese), probably due to the fact that it is a Japanese company. So this attracts a younger crowd (=the manga anime crowd). But independent of this, many internet users in China also tend to be on the younger side, I guess. Just keep looking, and you'll find older people there.... (but unlike on italki, you can't search for users by age, I think),

Why are dating ads inappropriate? I see them all over the internet?

The problem I have is the wording, and way the ads are placed in such prominent positions on the site, in addition to half a screen full of pictures of faces makes it easy for casual observers to mistakenly think you're visiting online dating websites.

Oh I understand your concerns from your earlier posts, imron, and maybe I misunderstood Meng Lelan, but she said she found them "inappropriate", so that's why I was wondering what would make them inappropriate and not just annoying....

Though I wish there was a wider age range in there, seems like everyone is in their twenties on lang8.

Not quite everyone. I belong.

imron said exactly what I was thinking. It's not appropriate for that reason. Also they feature an Asian female like I'm supposed to be some (Western?) guy visiting this site looking for Asian females. It's stupid. Well maybe I would think differently if they featured photos of available Chinese guys but that's not how this world works. Anyway this is supposed to be a language learning website not a dating website. Maybe I'll try italki.

Well, that's just the ads. I know for a fact that some people use italki like a dating site (I mean, language exchange, one of the oldest excuses in the book ), and contrary to this, I've found lang-8 users to be quite more focused on the task at hand, which is correct each other's writing. But both sites have their uses, so the best thing would be to pick the best from either.
