Guest realmayo Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:00 AM Report Share Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:00 AM Has anyone seen any mp3 files of Chengyu being read out? Or any three-, four-character phrases? I find it incredibly hard to remember anything over two characters these days, but I've had some success ripping out the mp3 of the few such phrases that are included in the vocab lists of our textbook, & listening to them again and again on the ipod. chrix Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:08 AM Report Share Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:08 AM the pinyin toolkit for anki has an audio feature, but I don't know how good it is. Some online dictionaries have audio too, but both for pinyin toolkit and those I'm apprehensive that these might be automatically generated based on sound files for the individual characters rather than pronouncing chengyu as a unit. So I'd love to find some kind of audio equivalent to my frequent chengyu list, so if anyone knows anything, please let us know!
Guest realmayo Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:25 AM Report Share Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:25 AM Yep, I always worry that those machine-generated sounds end up too artificial/robotic when it comes to sentences and phrases. Then again, a list of chengyu to-be-memorised, read into a microphone, might sound equally artificial and portentous, & nothing like normal speech.... chrix Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:35 AM Report Share Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:35 AM Some links: - a websites of proverbs, all "unique" audio files: http://web2.wku.edu/~yuanh/China/proverbs/ - Various collections of chengyu videos: they all read the name of the chengyu aloud, and also explain it. You could rip the audio off of them and put it on your iPod (if you do, please share with us ) 1. http://dharmasound.net/?type=movie&paths=Languages/Chinese/Happy%20Chinese/Idioms 2. http://video.baidu.com/v?word=%B3%C9%D3%EFflash&ct=301989888&rn=20&pn=0&db=0&s=0&fbl=1024 3. this is not a video collection, but also a collection of readings (mainly background stories), discussed in this thread: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/95-yi-bai-sui-bless-you07 - this excellent website on chengyu also has videos, but I couldn't get them to load yet, I think it also has audio sprinkled all over the site, you could get lucky: http://hk.chiculture.net/0610/html/index.shtml So these are not what you are looking for, but it might help others who are looking for anything audio with regard to chengyu... Sarevok Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:40 AM Report Share Posted December 14, 2009 at 01:40 AM Don't know about anything available online, but last time in China I bought this (I always buy an interesting book on chengyu when I see one ): 边听边记HSK成语王小宁 It is accompanied by an mp3 CD - every chengyu listed in the book is recorded there, along with a few example sentences for each. The cover says there are 249 chengyus in total (119 of which are included in the HSK词汇大纲)
