I have a few translation questions. I do not know much about the chinese language and have tried to do some research on my own and am not sure I am getting the correct answers.

What are the characters for uncle and aunt? This is my husband's brother and sister in law if that helps.

Also the first word my brother in law learned when he went over to China was "not spicy" or as they say over there "loo fawl." I have phonetically spelled this given that I don't know the correct spelling. Can someone give me the characters for this as well so I can make sure my research is correct?

Thank you,

torric

Is your brother-in-law older or younger than your husband? I assume you want the terms for your kids to call for brother- and sister-in-law?

If your brother-in-law is older: 伯伯

Otherwise: 叔父 (or is it 叔叔?)

From your husband's side:

uncle (older): 伯伯, or 伯父.

uncle (younger): 叔叔 or 叔父.

aunt (younger): 嬸嬸.

aunt (older): 伯母.

From your side:

uncle 舅舅

aunt 阿姨

Hope it helps!:)

Thank you!

My brother in law is older than my husband. As far as aunt is concerned it is his wife, so I am not sure if that changes anything.

not spicy - 不辣 -pronounced “boo lah". Not sure if this is what you referred to.

If the most useful word there is "not spicy!" (even more important than "where's the bathroom?"), I'm assuming it's Sichuan or Hunan.

Anyone here can pronounce 不辣 with a good Sichuanese or Hunanese accent?
