valikor Posted December 19, 2009 at 10:32 AM Report Posted December 19, 2009 at 10:32 AM Hi folks, I have some iPhone(iTouch) software right now that i'm using (Flashcards Deluxe), which I like. The only problem is that it will kill my battery if I use it as much as I should, and I'd rather have something I can also use on my computer. The best-case scenario would be to have something that would sync. This would be absolutely fantastic! Anki can apparently do this (right?). But I read here http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/2-favourite-chinese-musician8441 that the Anki iPhone application is "a joke" and is ridiculously difficult to use. I figured I should ask if anyone else has an opinion? (I read that ZDT is a popular alternative, so if anyone wants to make a pitch for that, feel free as well) thanks David Quote
chrix Posted December 19, 2009 at 10:40 AM Report Posted December 19, 2009 at 10:40 AM AFAIK, iAnki is free, why don't you try it for yourself? The person who wrote it is "ridiculously difficult" to use, wrote this in May and only posted five times. Who knows what has happened in the mean time... Quote
valikor Posted December 19, 2009 at 10:53 AM Author Report Posted December 19, 2009 at 10:53 AM Well, I've only posted 8 times now, so I couldn't hold that against him too much ;) Point taken, though. Yes Anki is free. So is ZDT. But, if people here felt strongly one way or the other, then I could save myself the burden of installing both systems (especially on the iTouch... I detest iTunes as it usually makes me sync about 5 times before properly installing any software) Quote
chrix Posted December 19, 2009 at 11:04 AM Report Posted December 19, 2009 at 11:04 AM well as I've posted in the Anki vs. ZDT vs. mnemosyne thread, I feel strongly for Anki because of all these plugins you can use it with, but I'm not sure about iAnki, as I've never used it. I use a Nokia phone (I installed a Taiwanese OS onto it so it can display Chinese characters) and for that I need to go online. The Anki online site has much less functionality than the desktop version, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same for iAnki. Quote
Kai13 Posted December 20, 2009 at 08:32 AM Report Posted December 20, 2009 at 08:32 AM Does anyone here know of good android chinese/japanese learning applications? Other than Anki. Quote
chinadude2006 Posted December 28, 2009 at 11:05 AM Report Posted December 28, 2009 at 11:05 AM I have made a list of 58 words in Anki, however when trying to review I can only review 20 words a day. This seems like a really small amount. Does anyone know how to increase the amount of words I am allowed to review everyday? Quote
valikor Posted December 28, 2009 at 11:17 AM Author Report Posted December 28, 2009 at 11:17 AM After you click to "Open" a deck, the option to change "number of new cards a day" should appear (among other options). Quote
vr2nr Posted April 6, 2010 at 05:10 AM Report Posted April 6, 2010 at 05:10 AM (edited) I am an Anki Fan, but have wanted an iPhone application for over a year now. So here is an application that can directly read Anki files exported to their dropbox. It will read the media as well. Ideally suited to audio and sentence/phrase study (e.g., smart use of screen real estate). *** Video: http://goo.gl/fVEM *** Further details: http://goo.gl/seTV Edited April 8, 2010 at 09:03 AM by vr2nr Quote
