ironbadger Posted August 17, 2004 at 02:51 PM Report Posted August 17, 2004 at 02:51 PM In watching the Olympics I wasn't surprised to see China doing well but was surprised to see their rowing crew's performance, praticularly the women's double sculls. Is Rowing a popular sport in China? Do Universities or Schools have Rowing teams? I can't imagine that it's the sport of choice for young Chinese women and men or am I totally wrong ? Quote
shibo77 Posted August 24, 2004 at 08:15 PM Report Posted August 24, 2004 at 08:15 PM Rowing is a very popular pasttime in China. Have you heard of the dragonboat races? -Shibo Quote
Lu Posted September 1, 2004 at 12:42 PM Report Posted September 1, 2004 at 12:42 PM I would have liked to row when I was in China, but I never heard of any rowing clubs there. I know about dragon boat races, but is there any rowing (the type that they do in the Olympics) in China? Quote
ironbadger Posted September 2, 2004 at 04:06 AM Author Report Posted September 2, 2004 at 04:06 AM That's what I'm wondering. I'm in Beijing just now and would really like to join a rowing club but it seems that its not a widespread activity even in the capital - perhaps in light of it hosting the 2008 games the sport might take off. Here's hoping. Quote
shibo77 Posted September 5, 2004 at 08:01 PM Report Posted September 5, 2004 at 08:01 PM Rowing clubs, I'm not sure of that. But go to Beihai (North Lake), and you can rent a boat and paddle away. I'm sure there are some professional rowing clubs. -Shibo Quote
