abcdefg Posted December 30, 2009 at 04:33 PM Report Posted December 30, 2009 at 04:33 PM ...and i'm probably worried over nothing... Open a Chinese bank account when you arrive, as has been suggested. Then worry about something else. International exchange rates are something that cannot be influenced by one average individual. Hope you enjoy your trip. It helps once you just start thinking in RMB instead of (declining) Euros or, in my case, (collapsing) Dollars. Quote
zhouhaochen Posted December 30, 2009 at 05:56 PM Report Posted December 30, 2009 at 05:56 PM now, dont forget about the poor people who are paid in RMB and had to go to Europe for Christmas last week. In Euro Terms, my salary went down 20% during the last half year, so about time that the good old Yuan is going up a little bit. We will make it to Euro Parity by 2020 I hope. And then I can finally afford that big house back home Quote
gougou Posted December 31, 2009 at 03:02 AM Report Posted December 31, 2009 at 03:02 AM the Yuan is coupled to the DollarActually it is now coupled to a super-secret currency basket, but the dollar still seems to be weighted pretty strongly.the poor people who are paid in RMBThat's what in German we call "whining on a high level" - I'm pretty happy to be earning RMB at the moment! luozhen Posted January 1, 2010 at 03:52 PM Report Posted January 1, 2010 at 03:52 PM The main thing is not to play around with exchange rates. Companies have gone bankrupt because they are not hedged, or they hedged poorly, or they tried to profit from changes. Figure out how much RMB you need for your trip and then transfer that amount into a bank account in China. Then you will have zero foreign currency exposure. Quote
Peter66 Posted January 6, 2010 at 03:44 AM Report Posted January 6, 2010 at 03:44 AM I just want Yuan stable, not up and down too much. This issue is out of our control. Quote
jbradfor Posted January 6, 2010 at 02:49 PM Report Posted January 6, 2010 at 02:49 PM And I want the Yuan to float freely, even if that means going up and down. You can't make everyone happy Quote
