skylee Posted September 20, 2003 at 04:20 PM Report Posted September 20, 2003 at 04:20 PM My father is Hakka, and he is the only one in our family who speaks and understands it. I find Hakka even "noisier" than Cantonese. Quote
Quest Posted September 20, 2003 at 05:28 PM Report Posted September 20, 2003 at 05:28 PM "noisier" or not it all depends on the speaker. but somehow, i seemed to find "poorer" places to have the "harshest and noisiest" sounding languages though. I think every language can sound beautiful, but depends on how the majority of the speakers speak it. I tend to think and notice people with status and class speak prettier "dialects" than people who work on farms or are uneducated. even mandarin, i've heard very pleasant mandarin vs very harsh mandarin. anyone agree? As to Hakka, I've had many friends who are hakka, same thing; some are very pleasant sounding, others are a bit harsh. Quote
geek_frappa Posted September 20, 2003 at 06:58 PM Report Posted September 20, 2003 at 06:58 PM yes i agree. i guess it depends what kind of mood the person is in. i guess it's same thing in english. :-) sailors don't swear like bishops. that's what my boss used to say. what is the best way to learn hakka?
