I am making a list of country names in Putonghua. How many countries do you know?

Zhongguo = China

Hanguo = Korea

Riben = Japan

Taiguo = Thailand

Yingguo = England

Faguo = France

Yidali = Italy

Deguo = Germany

Eguo = Russia

Xila = Greece

Xibanya = Spain

Meiguo = USA

Baxi = Brazil

Reden = Sweden

Henan = Holland

Please add any countries that I missed.

Yingguo is NOT England! It is Britain.

England= Yinggelan

Scotland= Sugelan

Wales= Wei'ershi

Northern Ireland= Bei Ai'er'lan

Also, e'luosi is more usual for Russia.

I'm willing to bet that not every member of this forum has a dictionary. Plus, it would be kind of fun to list the countries we know without the aid of a dictionary.

澳洲 (Aozhou)， 澳大利亚 (Aodaliya)： Australia. (The first one is probably used more outside the PRC.)

i have the name of every country and territory in my dictionary, with the tone marks, simplified, and traditional... as well as links to google in chinese search mode.... ZZZZZzzzzz..... boring. but sometimes needed.

I think you can omit the apostrophe in "e'luosi".

墨爾本 is definitely more common in Melbourne itself. I don't think I've ever seen 墨爾砵.

ya me, neither. it's nowhere in my notes.

in fact, it's a typo from CEDICT. i'm starting to correct and delete entries from my version of the CEDICT. many entries are erroneous and useless. it's a good idea, but i'll have to make my own data ...
