mirwoji Posted January 9, 2010 at 12:53 AM Report Posted January 9, 2010 at 12:53 AM My Chinese friend has a really chic, authentic Chinese restaurant here in the U.S. and she wants to introduce a few popular dishes that aren't really known abroad. One is Sichuanese 酸辣土豆丝 (suan1 la4 tu2dou4 si1). When I lived in China, I fed it to all my foreign guests with great responses, so I think it would do well here, too. But what should she name it for the English menu? The literal translation would be something like "Sour, spicy shredded potatoes," but as my friend pointed out, we want a name that attracts people's attention and curiosity. Any ideas? Quote
abcdefg Posted January 9, 2010 at 04:58 AM Report Posted January 9, 2010 at 04:58 AM Sichuan Shredded Potatoes -- Descriptive blurb -- "These shredded potatoes are tossed in a special sour and spicy sauce that will make your palate pop. After one bite you will burst into song in fluent Mandarin, guaranteed." Wish I could find 酸辣土豆丝 here in my Texas town. Quote
