Xi'an Jiaotong University vs. Nankai University

Hi all!

I have been researching about studying in China for awhile to learn Chinese. As of now, I have been accepted to Xi'an Jiaotong Unviersity and Nankai University. I'm seriously torn between the two. I have been looking at other posts, and yonglin's post has been truly helpful.

So far, I have comprised a list of pros and cons for each university.

Nankai University:

+ Beautiful Campus

+ Large Student Body (great for making friends as I hope to go and travel a lot with buddies)

+ Renowned University

- Apparently there isn't a lot to do there

- Very far from traveling to rest of China (i.e. located along the western coastline)

- Living expenses is expensive (taxis, food, etc.)

Xi'an University:

+ Located in the cultural hub of China

+ Very close to many interesting places

+ Living expenses is cheap

- Small student body

- Curriculum may not be as beneficial in learning Chinese as Nankai University.

I love traveling and seeing the ancient culture and scenic views, but I also want to experience the nightlife (i.e. clubbing and drinking). It kind of seems as if the two universities represent cultural (xi'an) vs. modern (nankai).

Any other tips/hints/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot! :D

Well, my reply may be a bit late, but I'll reply anyway. I am currently at Xi'an Jiaotong University. Beautiful place. I don't know how large a student body you want, but the main campus of this university alone has more than 10,000 students. I somehow think that should be enough to be able to make lots of good friends. Most people are very friendly and helpful, and willing to speak with you in Chinese. Good luck.
