doraemon Posted January 13, 2010 at 02:27 AM Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 at 02:27 AM Okay...I don't really know what it means, but a literal translation would be something like "sky word number one" (probably wrong). 天=sky 字=word 第一号= number one
abcdefg Posted January 13, 2010 at 03:14 AM Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 at 03:14 AM MDBG gives 天子 an alternate meaning of "Rightful Emperor/Son of Heaven." I wonder if this could be part of the meaning. Something like "Rightful Emperor Number One." Just a guess, I have not seen it before. Strange tattoo; maybe it's a gang designation. chrix Posted January 13, 2010 at 03:26 AM Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 at 03:26 AM Alternate meaning? What else would 天子 mean? But I would agree, 天字 is probably a typo of 天子...
semantic nuance Posted January 13, 2010 at 03:33 AM Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 at 03:33 AM 天字第一號 is not a typo of 天子. It means somethig is the greatest, the number one, second to none, etc. Here's the explanation from Yahoo: 1.the greatest in the world; par excellence. Hope it helps!
