Sinealba Posted January 14, 2010 at 10:36 AM Report Posted January 14, 2010 at 10:36 AM Hello, I'm looking for a chengyu which would mean: pursue improvement while respecting traditions. I'm not sure if there is one to express this, but if anyone of you knows one which could do, that'd be great! This leads to my second question: is there a tool that lists chengyus by their meaning or semantic field? All the dictionaries I've seen list chengyus by characters, meaning you have to know the chengyu to look it up. But if I'm looking for a new chengyu to express my meaning, what resources can I turn to? Thanks for any tips! Quote
chrix Posted January 14, 2010 at 12:36 PM Report Posted January 14, 2010 at 12:36 PM There are lists like that, search for 分类成语词典 and you should find some. But a caveat: you still need to learn each chengyu for its exact meaning and usage, semantically sorted word lists can only be a first step... Quote
CrisPal Posted January 15, 2010 at 01:46 AM Report Posted January 15, 2010 at 01:46 AM It is quuite difficult to find chengyu to fit to "pursue improvement while respecting traditions" while some chengyus suggested: 与时俱进 持之以恒 Quote
