1949 - Communism save China

1979 - Capitalism save China

1989 - China save Communism

2009 - China save Capitalism

I do think it is very intresting.

I'll agree with the 1st one and the 2nd one. The last two are just catchy soundbites thrown around to appeal to over-inflated ego of a lot of Chinese.(In certain sense, China is a lot like the US with majority of the population rather ignorant and unhealthily self-centric. Basically, it always has to be about them.) I'd like to believe China is that important. But fact just doesn't add up. So to me personally, stuffs like these ain't that much different from the alleged Obama effect so popular with US media last year. Iran's protest was the result of Obama effect, Europe was sure to fall head over toe because of Obama effect, etc. Washington Post was even surprised to see Russians didn't fall for Obama effect during his visit there, not to mention the ridiculous even by the most ridiculous standard assertion that China's management of Obama's visit was because of fear of Obama effect on Chinese. Seriously, these guys drank way too much Kool-aid, or as Chinese would like to say: 别自我感觉太良好了,这世界离了谁都照样转

Very interesting saying indeed. I agree with point 1, 2, 3.

#3 makes sense because China was almost the last Communist country. There are some other small Communist countries too but they don't make much difference and I doubt they would survive if China fell.

The last one is a bit exaggerating. 2009 isn't a so big deal when put in a larger context.

If you count, actually Deng Xiaoping saved China thrice, 1979, 1989, and 1992. 1992 is in every Chinese book about economic reform and is very much unknown to the outside world.

Today's China is more Deng's China than anyone else'.
