ganyuehan Posted January 24, 2010 at 11:16 AM Report Posted January 24, 2010 at 11:16 AM How do you explain to people in Taiwan, who rarely see snow, what snow blowers are. My pathetic but best shot at it would be to say 他們用一個機器把路上的雪吹走. Quote
chrix Posted January 24, 2010 at 12:25 PM Report Posted January 24, 2010 at 12:25 PM My dictionary has 氣爆式剷雪機, which doesn't have many hits, but if you just look for 剷雪機, you get plenty of pics on the image search... Quote
trien27 Posted January 24, 2010 at 03:01 PM Report Posted January 24, 2010 at 03:01 PM (edited) Chrix is correct: You can use 剷雪機, which literally means "snow shoveling machine" or You could also translate "snowblower"/"snow blower" directly from English into Chinese: 吹雪機. 他們用一個機器把路上的雪吹走. Use either: 1. 他們用一個剷雪機把路上的雪吹走. [Replacing 機器 with "剷雪機".] 2. 他們用一個吹雪機把路上的雪吹走. [Replacing 機器 with "吹雪機".] PS I'm a bit confused - In English, is it one word or two? nciku & google lists it as both "snow blower" and "snowblower". Source: http://www.nciku.com/search/all/snowblower http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=snowblower&aql=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi Edited January 24, 2010 at 03:13 PM by trien27 Additional information Quote
BrandeX Posted January 24, 2010 at 03:30 PM Report Posted January 24, 2010 at 03:30 PM I'd just use a picture, even to show someone in English who has never lived in a snowy region. Quote
