I know that in China some symbols in text and emails mean different things then they do to native english speakers. But what does it mean when this symbol comes up? symbol ~ This is a spanish and portugese symbol, but does it have a special meaning in China? Is this commonly used? Quote

Lu Posted February 14, 2010 at 11:04 AM Report Posted February 14, 2010 at 11:04 AM It doesn't have to be flirtatious, can just be used to make things sound more cutesy/less serious. There has been a thread on this ~ before. Quote
trien27 Posted February 15, 2010 at 11:28 PM Report Posted February 15, 2010 at 11:28 PM My friend from Hong Kong uses ~ after all her IM sessions with me, so I don't think it's flirtatious: she's married. It's just some gesture that it's not really serious, or when something is funny, she uses it too. Quote
