abcdefg Posted February 17, 2010 at 06:14 AM Report Posted February 17, 2010 at 06:14 AM If you don't have much of a kitchen and don't have a Chinese wife who likes to cook, one item you should look into over here is a slow cooker or crock pot. They are called 电炖锅 = diàn dùn guō which literally means "electric stew pot." They aren't at all hard to find and they are not very expensive. I bought a small one for 139 RMB. You can put fresh vegetables from the market into one of these with a ham bone or some meat and in two or three hours you will have an easy and delicious bachelor meal. I would put it right up there with the 电饭锅 (rice cooker) as an essential living tool and wish I had discovered it several years ago. Quote
skylee Posted February 17, 2010 at 10:32 AM Report Posted February 17, 2010 at 10:32 AM How nice. I have been living with a small cooking pot which is large enough for instant noodle only for over a decade now. No microwave oven, no toaster, no rice cooker, no pan. It is ridiculous. I have wanted to buy many cooking appliances for many years, but whenever I thought about the actual cooking, I stopped. Buying them is easy, using them is not. At the christmas party last December I got a lucky draw prize which is a mini rice cooker. It is still in the drawer of my office desk. I do have an electric kettle. I envy people who likes to cook. chrix Posted February 17, 2010 at 01:41 PM Report Posted February 17, 2010 at 01:41 PM abcdefg, I did exactly the same thing, when I was living in Taiwan, with rice and eggs though OK, I didn't use a special pot, just a standard frying pan for the veggies, and a pot for the rice... Quote
