igacave Posted June 8, 2017 at 05:50 PM Report Posted June 8, 2017 at 05:50 PM @Blckclaw Master Teaching of Chinese We will see, but don't feel very optimistic... 1
方茹婷 Posted June 8, 2017 at 06:31 PM Report Posted June 8, 2017 at 06:31 PM Wow @igacave, I'm sure you will get it! I don't think that so many people apply for MTCSOL. Be sure to tell us your result, I'm curious because I want to apply for that later too. 1
igacave Posted June 8, 2017 at 07:04 PM Report Posted June 8, 2017 at 07:04 PM @方茹婷 Thanks!I will tell you for sure @foreigner2u 汉办根据接收院校提交的材料审核确定评审意见,并于7月15日前将评审结果通知各地教育厅..... Guys, we have been mistaken the whole time. This is not relevant. This does not decision or informing us. There is nothing on when will Hanban inform us. I do remeber someone from this forum calling Hanban and asking about when we would know. They replied 15.06. I really want to believe that . And what is more I remeber two years ago it was the same: Hanban informed us 15th June, and later on, around min July they sent documents (visa etc) to our Unis, and Unis sent to us. It was horrible, documents arrived in late August. But this is another story. 3
dumpling98 Posted June 8, 2017 at 07:21 PM Report Posted June 8, 2017 at 07:21 PM I hope it doesn't come to this. I wont be in August at all in my home country. I was hoping I would finish everything by the start of August. lol
igacave Posted June 8, 2017 at 07:56 PM Report Posted June 8, 2017 at 07:56 PM @dumpling98 be prepared. It is impossible to get all things ready in July. I wish there would be such option. But if unis will even send docs next day they receive it, it still takes two0three weeks for documents to arrive. 1
foreigner2u Posted June 8, 2017 at 08:58 PM Report Posted June 8, 2017 at 08:58 PM Dear @crisgee sorry for tagging you, but since you work in the CI of your country, do you know anything about the dates of Hanban's final decision? Is there any news about it? I appreciate your time 3
Popular Post Sharon_Too Posted June 9, 2017 at 05:19 AM Popular Post Report Posted June 9, 2017 at 05:19 AM Latest update: I didn't have to withdraw my MTCSOL application to change my recommending institution from Chinese Cultural Centre to Chinese Embassy, they figured it out themselves. East China Normal Uni finally processed my application and arranged for an interview after a month. Just passed the interview on Wednesday and two days later my status is 预录取 with a remark 表现良好,汉语流利,从事汉语国际教育意愿,拟同意预录取. The interview was easy, much more simple and straightforward than expected. A self-introduction Chinese learning experience, including previously taken classes related to Chinese since I'm changing fields Current job Why pursue a master degree Why chose to teach Chinese Chinese teaching situation in my country (stress on your advantage as local teacher) Nothing about past research achievements, research proposal, interested research fields for thesis. No technical questions on elementary knowledge about Chinese language, Chinese grammar like Chinese students go through in 考研复试面试. No testing of Chinese proficiency, like @艾墨本 had to read a text aloud and reply to open end questions... There were two teachers interviewing me via skype in a classroom, and my face probably projected on the wall. Teachers were very friendly. Audio was fine but with slight time lag. Make sure you have strong wifi, good lighting and no background noise. So now we've got to wait for Hanban to confirm 已授予 status. Cheers, and may the odds be in our favour 9

They increased the requirement from HSK2 which I had obtained, so I have been focusing on obtaining my HSK3 to apply for the scholarship, which will take one more month for my result. I was told by Tianjin University that the deadline of application for the first semester is on 15 June 2017, and 15 December 2017 for the second one. On 2017-6-6 at 5:46 PM, igacave said: 1) They filled their quota and they are saying this to avoid direct rejection - very Chinese I must say. I was also told by Capital Normal University that the schools don't control their quota, Hanban does it. While another school told me that they won't pre-admit me because they already have pre-admitted many students so I may be rejected by Hanban at the end anyway. I think they have a general idea of how many students they can pre-admit but they don't know the exact number. In my opinion, if a school told us that they filled their quota it is a mere excuse to reject us. Make your own conclusions. On 2017-6-7 at 5:03 PM, Opi said: What I'm wondering is, why are we being pre-admitted by universities if they know fully well that we don't reach the stated requirements? From my experience they don't know it. Every teacher has a different point of view of the requirements. That's why it is very ambiguos and some people are pre-admitted while others in the same conditions are rejected by others schools. I also have to say that at the beggining they were more flexible to pre-admit candidates because their lack of information/experience but now many teachers are changing their minds and have a stricter criteria (not everyone though). And answering your other question, I know people who aren't Chinese Major or Chinese Teacher and they were pre-admitted for a one year scholarship. On 2017-6-7 at 11:45 PM, 地球人 said: Expecting to get the same response. I wonder why I didn't receive any message from my second choice univ, though (Dalian uni). If you haven't received an updated of your application yet I suggest you to contact them, otherwise it will take forever. On 2017-6-8 at 10:17 AM, Jellyfish said: Sorry for the late reply, I'm away in London right now, but I just wanted to say that that totally, seriously sucks and is really unfair. You do fulfil the criteria. It's so arbitrary. Is there any way you can "retrieve" your application (ask for it to be set back to the first stage) and change your chosen unis? As I said before it is very random, and apparently it depends on what teacher reviews your application. Even two teachers in a same school can disagree. About, my application it was retrieved by Hanban automatically (I didn't ask for it). Since it moved from the forth to the first stage, does that mean that Hanban is giving me another chance to change the category? their comment was 请查看学校未录取的处理意见。 I summarize a few comments from my experience talking to schools: - There are some which want more Europeans at their school and they will pre-admit any European candidates who fulfill the HSK requiriments, no matter their major. - TCSOL B (one semester) is applicable as long as you are a registered CI (not HSK center) student AND intend to apply for BTCSOL. You don't need to be a Chinese Major Student or a in-service teacher for this. - Some schools pre-admitted non-chinese major students for TCSOL C (1 academic year) at first but they all were rejected by Hanban at the end. So they won't admit someone else with that profile anymore because it is "bad reputation" for them. - The second choice uni makes no use. If you were rejected by the first choice uni the second one will most likely do the same. Do you guys know anyone who was pre-admitted by the second uni? In conclusion: - Apparently, TCSOL B is a prep-bachelor degree while TCSOL C is a prep-master degree. - You should contact the school you want to apply for before submitting your application. - Being at the 4th stage isn't safe at all. Some teachers might be easy going letting you go forward but Hanban makes the final decision. - Chinese major or related is very important this year. Translation and Interpreting major is considered too for Literature, History and Philosophy. I might have forgotten to say something, but I think that's all for now! 5
martineden Posted June 9, 2017 at 11:47 AM Report Posted June 9, 2017 at 11:47 AM @Luxin I got rejected by the first uni (they waited out the 30 days) and pre-admitted by the second within days. I applied to Yunnan Daxue and Yunnan Normal University for TCSOL.
Jellyfish Posted June 9, 2017 at 11:50 AM Report Posted June 9, 2017 at 11:50 AM @Luxin Yeah, I completely agree with what you said there. About your question, I do think that Hanban are basically giving you a second chance to either change your category to one that would suit you/your uni better, or possibly change uni. If they categorically didn't want you to apply, they'd have moved your application to the last stage and rejected it. They also recommend you take your uni's comments into consideration. Your uni hasn't been particularly helpful but maybe do ask them if they see any other major or category which they think you would qualify for (regardless of the fact that you already qualify for the one you did apply for). Alternatively, speak to your CI, give them a summary of the situation, say you want to apply again and ask for advice. I reckon your best shot might be a less competitive uni or your CI's partner uni. Good luck and keep us posted! 1
martineden Posted June 9, 2017 at 11:55 AM Report Posted June 9, 2017 at 11:55 AM By the way, I don't understand why they would only require HSK 3 for TCSOL, when they ask for HSK 4 for the other 1 academic year scholarships.
igacave Posted June 9, 2017 at 04:13 PM Report Posted June 9, 2017 at 04:13 PM Guys, I am happy that some of you got a second chance to apply There is only one possibility of making a mistake. The only way you re-apply is if you applied for wrong cathegory. They will not give you that chance in other situation, unless you ask them. In some ways Hanban is getting soft. For past couple of years if you did something wrong, you simply got rejected and you han no other options. 1

My CI just sent them back the application yesterday, though. I hope it's not too late. I read in the hanban site that by june 20th the unis should have all confirmed applicants and by July 15th, hanban should inform the confirmed scholarships.

I agree with Jelly you should try and contact your CI once again. Let me tell you what is going on in my class so maybe that will help you somehow~ We are aprox 30 students who are applying to TCSOL, so our CI contacted our partner uni and they were told that they could only pre-admit 10 students due to quota limitations. My CI took in consideration what happened last year when Hanban only granted scholarships for the ones with higher scores, so my CI divided us into groups according to our scores in our HSK exams. First, they chose 10 students who got the lowest scores and let them apply to our CI's partner uni to increase somehow their chances to win the scholarship. And then they let the others apply to other host unis such as Beijing, Nanjing, Harbin, etc~ @Luxin I have a few friends who got pre admitted by their second choices. A friend applied to a Beijing uni as his first choice because he had an almost perfect score in his HSK 3. Unfortunately the host uni asked for his graduate diploma which he didn't have cause we are all still undergraduate students, so the uni rejected him and his documents were forwarded to his second choice: Harbin. Harbin reviewed his documents and asked for an interview which he successfully passed and got pre-admitted. In conclusion it is a fact that some host unis require more documentation than others depending on the competition, etc~ PS: I also recommend you to apply to your CI's partner uni or less competitive unis cause at this point many host unis have already taken interviews and chosen their pre admitted students. 1
New Members sjzv Posted June 9, 2017 at 11:04 PM New Members Report Posted June 9, 2017 at 11:04 PM hi! is there anyone here applying for South China Normal University? i got pre-admitted to study one semester on 2017-05-17 but i haven't got any news from that date on. 1

地球人 Posted June 14, 2017 at 11:35 AM Report Posted June 14, 2017 at 11:35 AM Hello guys, I am happy that I just got pre admitted by my university of choice, after less than a week that my CI sent the app!. So that means they're still working on admissions. I'm not expecting to get any decision from Hanban for a while. The wait will be long Ps: How do you know which uni pre admitted you? It doesn't say anything about it in the app?
diogoilheu Posted June 14, 2017 at 01:20 PM Report Posted June 14, 2017 at 01:20 PM @地球人 Congratulations!! I've also been admitted to my first choice uni and now waiting for Hanban's approval, I hope the wait is not that long. If there isn't any other comment besides that one saying you have been admitted it was the first choice uni. If they had rejected it would show one comment saying why you were rejected, followed by the comment of your second choice uni saying they admitted you. 1
方茹婷 Posted June 14, 2017 at 04:30 PM Report Posted June 14, 2017 at 04:30 PM @地球人 If you had no problems and there is only a simple message that you have been pre-admitted, it means that you are accepted by your first choice uni. You are accepted by the second choice uni only after being refused by the first choice uni, which can be seen in a message saying that your app has been sent to your second choice. 1
