Confucius Institute Scholarship

@lorenz- Thanks for the tip!

I followed the link to the "register" page. On that page under the column of 学期 it says 秋季. Does this mean I was only awarded scholarship money for a single semester?

@insighter Mine also says the same as yours, but I applied for one year. I contacted the school in China and they told me I was accepted for the full year scholarship.

I know this is repeating, but I just wanted to double confirm

Currently my status reads:

状态:“奖学金资格评审中”- 授予奖学金

(意见:符合条件,同意授予。)

Does this means that I am granted the scholarship & can celebrate already?

Also, I heard that the deadline for the registration form with JW 202 is 10 July

but I have yet to receive any e-mail

Can anyone let us know if you guys out there received anything from Hanban?

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Hi everybody.

The international students office of SISU answerd me yesterday, telling me the following:

"the admission letter and other documents for visa will be processed in the following 2-3 weeks. Then they will be sent by post to you. Normally, the letter will arrive you at the end of this month"

Apparently I have just to wait!

Anyone who got one semester scholarship? ... I wrote an email to my university, I ask about the date that I hv to arrive there and also the date that I hv to come back to my country... They said I hv to come back in the mid of january (but I'm wonderring that when I register the CIS website, the duration of the studying is Sep 2012-March 2013)....

So, I wouldlike to know that. Other people who got one semester scholarship, which month do you hv to turn back to youcountry?

@Fangau I applied for the one year but I talked to my contact and she told me the exact dates for the semester at Wuhan University. Fall semester 9/1/12-1/25/13 Winter break 1/25/13-3/1/13 Spring semester 3/1/13-6/29/13. They probably told you January because that's when the semester ends, but the winter break is especially long so travel!

@Lorenz Wow the end of the month, that leaves three weeks to get the visa, China embassies in the US don't make it simple to get a visa either. Probably because US embassies don't make it easy for Chinese :P

@sgtpepper729: she told me the documents for visa, not the visa itself, will arrive in three weeks. Btw, here we normally get a Chinese visa in 4 days (u can in 2 days too, paying something more to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center)... probably u're right when saying Chinese like reciprocity =)

I asked the lady of the international students office of SISU (where I'm going to study) about the visa and she answerd me the following:

With the documents we'll send, you can apply for a student visa (X type). But it’s not for 6 months, it’s only for 30 days. You have to change it to residence permit when you arrived. In that case, the university will organize the visa application. No worries.

As I know, student can also apply for a visit visa (F type), which is for 6 months. So, try to get a F visa. It’s more convenient.

Basically she's inviting me to break the law. Did I understand right?

I just discovered that the visit visa is the L type. The F one is a business visa.

I'm wondering to ask the application service center... the lady of SISU doesn't seem to be very aware about these things!

@lorenz: the F visa is more convenient if you only plan to study for 1 semester in China, as it doesn't requires medical check up (around 500 RMB)

the drawback from F visa is that you are only granted max double entry-exit

the student visa will require medical check-up, however you can go in and out china multiple times

@rcky: I don't bother the number of entry-exit, since I'm not planning to come back to Italy before the end of my stay.

Anyways, isn't the F visa the business type?! how may I get it?!

I don't think she was refering to the visit visa (the L type), since, if I correctly understood, the L visa works up to 1 month. Is it right?!

@rcky In the US applying for a student visa requires a medical exam in advance, do they also require a medical exam once arriving in China?

It does say in the announcement that a medical exam is required, I am assuming in China

2.入学体检不合格者,奖学金资格将被取消。

2. Scholarships will be canceled for those who cannot pass the health examination.

@fangou

As sgtpepper729 stated, school ends just before Chinese New Year. After that, there is a long break throughout winter till the beginning of March. You need to see how long your scholarship is for. If as you said you are only granted a 秋期 scholarship then you might have to leave China before the end of January or sometime Feb. Usually one semester visa's are 180 days.

@lorenz: I think anybody can get F visa since most of my friends who are only studying for 1 semester applied & granted F visa. Also, the teacher at the intl student's office recommend me to do so. BTW, going to Macau or HK also counts as exiting China, so you might want to consider the number of entry-exit if you plan to visit those country within your study semester

@sgtpepper729: Based on my 1 sem study experience in China, for study purpose, you can only enter China with L visa (tourist visa), then the school will help you to convert to either F visa or X visa

L & F visa do not requires medical check-up, only X visa

It is wiser if you could do the medical check-up in China, last time I checked with my school if you did the medical check-up in your home country, you need to get it translated to Mandarin (which might be troublesome of finding one considering you are new to China)

@rcky You are right about the tourist visa. I just spoke with my contact at Wuhan University and they said for us we can enter on a tourist visa and then it will be converted.
