skylee Posted August 26, 2004 at 01:36 PM Report Posted August 26, 2004 at 01:36 PM I know 唐寅 was a real person, an artist of Ming Dynasty. But how true is this famous story/comedy of 唐伯虎點秋香? (BTW, I've come across this interesting flash, which appears to be a copy of 周星馳's movie -> 唐伯虎點秋香之小強篇.) Quote
Ian_Lee Posted August 27, 2004 at 08:22 PM Report Posted August 27, 2004 at 08:22 PM Skylee: Go to some old used bookstores and you may find books about Mr. Tang. Mr. Tang was one of the so-called "4 Famous Scholars South of Yangtze" during the middle years of Ming Dynasty. One of the reasons why Mr. Tang was so womanizing was that he tried to avoid trouble. During that time, one member of the Royal family tried to organize a mutiny in Jiangxi. They recruited smart people and tried to induce Tang to join them. Tang knew trouble was coming but felt hard to refuse outright. So he pretended to be a womanizers and showed absolutely no interest in politics. Therefore Tang was free of the trouble when the mutiny was suppressed. But another one of the 4 Scholars -- Mr. Zhou -- was not so lucky. He was incarcerated because he was recruited. Quote
