cliveloughlin Posted March 3, 2010 at 08:44 AM Report Share Posted March 3, 2010 at 08:44 AM Hi guys I'm on BNUs bachelors programme and have just started to learn现代汉语. I'm already lost...i don't remember learning English grammar (particles attributes, predicates etc.定语,谓语,状语等) in school never mind in Chinese!So...i'm looking for some books in English about this kind of stuff...does anyone know of any? I can speak but don't know why i say things in the way that i do....i have no knowledge of grammar whatsoever! The topics that we study include: 语音(韵母,声母,音节,声调etc) 文字(形体,结构,整理和标准化,使用规范汉字) 词汇(词汇单位和结构,词义的性质和构成,词义的分解,词义的聚合,词义和语境的关系,现代汉语词汇的组成,熟语,词汇的发展变化和词汇饿规范化)。 Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Clive

gato Posted March 4, 2010 at 03:07 AM Report Share Posted March 4, 2010 at 03:07 AM I seem to remember that the OP has been studying Chinese at BNU for the past two years. If you have not learned any grammar after two years of formal study, you might want to re-examine the teaching and studying methods. There seems to be a big hole there. cliveloughlin Posted March 4, 2010 at 08:00 AM Author Report Share Posted March 4, 2010 at 08:00 AM hi guys thanks a lot! i'll look into the book you mentioned and let you know how i get on gato: i can use grammar but i wouldn't be confident in teaching it to other students; i know what to say/how to say it but i don't know why it's like that...these points are the basis of 现代汉语, it's not as simple as saying using grammar in real life! haha. all the best. clive
