leosmith Posted March 6, 2010 at 12:35 PM Report Posted March 6, 2010 at 12:35 PM Can someone suggest good locations to buy 1) Chinese Breeze books and 2) TV show DVDs in Shanghai? I'm in xujiahui. I went to a big bookstore today, and bought one 14 hr TV show DVD box-set. I really like it, but I want to get the ugly betti series, and maybe that time traveling cell phone robot girl show that y'all love. That book store didn't carry Chinese Breeze. I went to a book store a few days ago, and bought one Chinese Breeze 500 series book. They didn't have any others. I'd like to get all the 300s. I'll only be in Shanghai for a few more days, then I'll leave the country. Quote
anonymoose Posted March 6, 2010 at 01:01 PM Report Posted March 6, 2010 at 01:01 PM (edited) I don't know specifically where you can get those items, but I can tell you where there are a few bookstores: Metro City (I think that's what it's called in English, anyway in Chinese it's 美罗城) in Xujiahui has a bookshop on the 4th floor, I believe. Ganghui (港汇广场) in Xujiahui also has a bookshop on one of the upper floors. 博库书城 in Yishan Road has a fairly large bookstore, and is not too far from Xujiahui. I think you can get there with the 830 bus (and probably several others) and you need to get out at No.6 Hospital (市六医院). Fuzhou Road, near People's Square has probably one of the largest bookshops in Shanghai. Walk down (about half way) from People's Square and the shop is on the right hand side. Fuzhou Road also has the Foreign Language bookshop a little further down the road (and on the opposite side) to the one mentioned above. They have quite a few books for foreigners learning Chinese, so you might be able to find the C. Breeze series there. There is also quite a big bookshop in Nanjing Road, quite far down, as far as I recall, although it's a long time since I've been there, so I can't give more details than that. You could also try the shop next to Jiaotong University which has a fair selection of academic books. Again, you may find the C. Breeze books there. The only thing is, this shop is not so easy to find, because it's on something like the fourth floor in a building without an obvious streetside sign. You need to go to the junction of Huashan Road and Guangyuan Road, walk down Guangyuan West Road about 50m and it is on the right-hand side. If I remember rightly, it is called 昂立书店.
