Guest realmayo Posted March 9, 2010 at 11:00 PM Report Posted March 9, 2010 at 11:00 PM This may be just some quirk of my computer, but in case it's relevant to anyone else I'll post this here: my Windows Vista computer has consistently refused to let me "safely remove" any external hard drive I attach via the USB port, claiming that it's still being used by some (unstated) programme. Today I finally found out what it was: QQ. I closed down QQ, tried to "safely remove" the drive, and it worked immediately. I'm not too smart about computers, but downloaded a programme called Process Explorer, as per the instructions here. It said there were six instances of QQ.exe with a "handle" (?) on my various Harddisks. That's why I shut down QQ, & hey presto, I could remove the USB drive. Quote
BrandeX Posted March 10, 2010 at 12:36 PM Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 12:36 PM Sorry, did you have a question? Personally I'd remove all traces of QQ/Tencent software and use an alternative. There is a thread about it here on the forums. Quote
Shadowdh Posted March 10, 2010 at 05:37 PM Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 05:37 PM I think it was more in the way of a tutorial or a good tip Brandex... Realmayo... hows things going mate... long time no speak, hit me up with a pm or email or even text if you fancy a chat... Quote
abcdefg Posted March 11, 2010 at 02:29 AM Report Posted March 11, 2010 at 02:29 AM It said there were six instances of QQ.exe with a "handle" (?) on my various Harddisks. QQ is pretty "invasive." It quietly insinuates its tentacles into many nooks and crannies. That's why I shut down QQ, & hey presto, I could remove the USB drive. That's why I uninstalled QQ, & hey presto, I got my computer back. Quote
