jmike Posted March 10, 2010 at 03:21 AM Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 03:21 AM I am soon applying for a 12 month multipule entry visa to mainland China. I was wondering if anyone here has a 6 or 12 month multipule entry visa, and what is the exact thing they do to " renew " their visa. The Lady at the visa office said, since I will be in Guangzhou, I could just leave every 60 days and to to hong kong and stay a full 24 hours. Then come back to China and that will start up another 60 visa on the multipule entry . Has anyone done this? Can anyone give me feedback or advice on this situation? Please, I need to know ASAP! A HUGE thanks in advance! Quote
fanglu Posted March 10, 2010 at 06:54 AM Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 06:54 AM You just need to cross the border and have your passport stamped. No need to stay 24 hours. Quote

fanglu Posted March 10, 2010 at 08:08 AM Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 08:08 AM Be careful. Companies that aren't willing/able to give you a work visa may well be shonky. Quote
jmike Posted March 10, 2010 at 08:33 AM Author Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 08:33 AM If the word shonky means something like shady, then it is fine. I checked out the company and it is SO much better then the one I used to work for. I have never heard the work shonky before. Does it mean something along the lines of Shady? Quote
fanglu Posted March 10, 2010 at 09:01 AM Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 09:01 AM Wiktionary says: shonky English Adjective shonky (comparative shonkier, superlative shonkiest) 1. (British, Australian, slang) of poor or dubious quality; shoddy. Quote
jmike Posted March 10, 2010 at 11:30 AM Author Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 11:30 AM Thanks, my vocabulary grows! They seem ok. About 99% of the teachers in my area don't have visas from there company. Getting one a Z visa is the exception rather then the rule. Most cops don't even care as long as you are respectful and obey the law. Anyway, thanks for the advice on the visa. Many thanks! Quote
BrandeX Posted March 10, 2010 at 12:33 PM Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 12:33 PM Here in GZ, it is reputed to be the most strict regarding visas and work permits in China. I am not sure how you came across that most are illegals. (although they well might be) Quote
jmike Posted March 10, 2010 at 01:08 PM Author Report Posted March 10, 2010 at 01:08 PM They can stay in the country, but most I have met didn't have a work visa. They had visas, just not the Z visa. Quote
