kante Posted March 14, 2010 at 01:15 AM Report Posted March 14, 2010 at 01:15 AM I want to apply for a one-semester-course as a language student at beijing normal university. on their homepage, it is said that they will respond within 45 days. now i would like to ask you if anyone has experiences with that procedure there. i m mainly interested in the chances to get enrolled in their program.... i'm a bit worried since it would be a very difficult situation, if they replied very late and would not have enrolled me. then it might be too late to find something else... does anyone know how easy or difficult it is to get into those language (non-degree) programs? additionally, recommendations for other universities might be interesting (only beijing). i think, BLCU is a bit too expensive and seems to be only focusing on making much money. if i stay for one semester, do i have to undergo these medical tests? i've heard that these tests are necessary when you stay longer than 6 months, but a semester is usually only about 4 or 5 months. and if so, is a simple certificate (from my country) enough or do i have to go to THEIR examinations? taylor04 Posted March 15, 2010 at 12:01 AM Report Posted March 15, 2010 at 12:01 AM As far as I understand it, anyone who applies as a language student can get into the universities. I can't speak for BNU, but doesn't seem like any of the universities look at your grades or anything (except possibly for a degree program). I really want to say its a 100% admission rate, but wouldn't go that far:D As far as the medical examinations, you only need it if you are going to be in China for more than 6 months. They have a specific form you have to use which can be found on their websites, and it can be done in your country Quote

kante Posted March 22, 2010 at 10:07 PM Author Report Posted March 22, 2010 at 10:07 PM One important question: I have asked them in a mail, how to pay the application fee of 450 RMB. On the website, it is only said that you can pay by cash or check... Cash is insecure and I don t have RMB here Check... I don t know how to do this because they don t have any data on their page. Can anybody help me with this? Quote
piasano Posted March 24, 2010 at 12:03 PM Report Posted March 24, 2010 at 12:03 PM I am fairly certain you don't pay the registration fee until you actually get to the school. Quote
kante Posted March 24, 2010 at 12:54 PM Author Report Posted March 24, 2010 at 12:54 PM Hmm, http://www.bnulxsh.com/jieshao/1009jinxiushengbanfa.htm here it is said that I have to pay it in advance... It's a bit complicated, i think Does anyone else know anything about that? Quote
adrianlondon Posted March 24, 2010 at 03:13 PM Report Posted March 24, 2010 at 03:13 PM You're meant to pay it in advance - I got a friend already in Beijing to pay it for me. I know people at BLCU who paid when they arrived and it was fine - seems odd as the application fee should be a fee for processing the application and preparing the J-thingy visa form. Just call BNU and tell them you'll pay the fee when you arrive; I reckon it'll be OK. Quote
taylor04 Posted March 25, 2010 at 05:29 AM Report Posted March 25, 2010 at 05:29 AM I had a Chinese friend in the states who gave me some RMB for an application to Zheda. I found out later that I could just send them US dollars as well. You might be best off sending them an email and asking. Quote
kante Posted April 7, 2010 at 12:47 PM Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 at 12:47 PM Is there anyone from a non-English-speaking country in the EU who had to pay an application fee at a Chinese university? First, I wanted to pay by cheque but my bank does not have any international cheques... secondly, the BNU staff said that I am supposed to pay by traveler cheque. But this is not possible because the person buying the cheque has to sign on it... and only this person can get the money. Thirdly, obviously you cannot pay by bank transfer... Do you think it is secure to send the fee in cash? Quote
