Where to find simple text/stories to read online?

I'm looking for simple/kids stories or other text to read online. Not PDF or other ebooks and certainly not paper books. Something suitable for 500+ character recognition level. Interesting stories I can read in my browser - not news though.

Oh and not with pinyin.

Have you tried searching the forums? I've searched for the word "simple" in the title and found this thread, which looks pretty useful to you -> Simple online texts for learning to read characters

Yes I tried searching the forums. I searched for 'online' in the Reading and Writing Skills section but didn't find much. Looks like you found more although only one link in that thread is any good but its not really stories. I guess its not easy to find. A native Chinese could probably find simple stories online pretty quickly though.

That being said, I must confess that I did not personally find the "difficulty level one" articles to be very easy to read. Only you can tell if they fit your needs.
