82ndCowboy Posted March 22, 2010 at 02:13 AM Report Posted March 22, 2010 at 02:13 AM I'm looking for a website tool that will convert English into Chinese characters. I found one the other week, but forgot to bookmark it, and now I can't find it, my history doesn't go back that far. Can anyone recommend a website tool that is good to use with out having to buy or download any software? Quote

jbradfor Posted March 22, 2010 at 01:13 PM Report Posted March 22, 2010 at 01:13 PM If you just want to translate the general meaning, there are many (free) web sites. Just google "english chinese translation". Favorites seems to be MGDB, babelfish, and google. If you want an accurate translation, or poetic translation, or nuanced translation, no program can do that (yet!). Quote
Chris333 Posted March 23, 2010 at 08:29 AM Report Posted March 23, 2010 at 08:29 AM As mentioned, there are many but these are the ones I frequent the most: http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php? I like the MDBG because you can enter English, Chinese Characters or pinyin without the need to change the input language like some sites. http://www.worldlingo.com//en/products_services/worldlingo_translator.html This one is good for long strings of text, though the translation usually results in Chinglish. I think this is true for most sites because there still does not exist an algorithm which can interpret the fundamental differences in sentence structure/ grammar between English and Chinese. Quote
