Lilitu Posted March 24, 2010 at 02:41 AM Report Share Posted March 24, 2010 at 02:41 AM Does 萧风 sound alright, or is it not a suitable Chinese name?
skylee Posted March 24, 2010 at 05:17 AM Report Share Posted March 24, 2010 at 05:17 AM I think it is alright, although a bit old-fashioned. It brings to mind the line 風蕭蕭兮易水寒,and also a famous character 蕭峰 in a well-known wuxia novel.
Lilitu Posted March 24, 2010 at 07:10 AM Author Report Share Posted March 24, 2010 at 07:10 AM I looked it up, and saw that the character was a guy. Is it mainly a male name then?
yang1410 Posted March 29, 2010 at 12:12 AM Report Share Posted March 29, 2010 at 12:12 AM yes, a male name. And the character in the novel is a very strong man.

trien27 Posted May 19, 2010 at 01:11 AM Report Share Posted May 19, 2010 at 01:11 AM Does 萧风 sound alright, or is it not a suitable Chinese name? Just found out today that 萧风 is already taken. It's the name of a female Chinese singer: Chinese taboo: Two [or more] people cannot possibly have the same exact given & last names, EXCEPT when it's a coincidence. If something bad happened to the person with this name, then whoever [else] has this name will also be affected. I'd suggest you take another name. If people believe this to be true, why are there over a million people with the name 劉波 and another million with the name 李剛? Why can't someone has the name 蕭風 by coincidence? jbradfor Posted May 19, 2010 at 01:48 PM Report Share Posted May 19, 2010 at 01:48 PM I think what trien27 is trying to say is that if, at the time you are picking a name, you know someone else with the exact same name, then those two are somehow "linked" together. In contrast, if you don't know the other person at the time the name is picked, but you find out later that the two people have the same name, then you are not "linked" together. Personally, I have never heard this, but I certainly don't know all Chinese taboos.
doraemon Posted May 22, 2010 at 06:05 AM Report Share Posted May 22, 2010 at 06:05 AM What about 萧凤 (feminine)? 萧枫 (neutral)? 萧丰 (neutral)?
